Topic pretty much explains the question, anyone order the Fry's 8800 EVGA card when it was reasonably priced for $229? Did yours ship yet?

I've hear a lot of rumors, and I've even called and their sales reps said that they'd receive their 8800GTs today. I'd like some peace of mind to know that we're not going to get screwed as Fry's took out the $229 EVGA and $239 BFG 8800GTs because I'm pretty damn sure they want to price gouge as well.

No sign of it shipping yet, but I called Fry's yesterday, too, and got the same info about their shipment being due in today with the cards shipping out Monday. If we're getting bad info, at least they're consistent.

There's a paranoid little voice telling me they're going to delay shipping to get people to cancel their pre-orders so they can sell them at a gouged price, but I've dealt with Fry's a bit before and they seem pretty reliable. Not much else to do but wait, unfortunately.

Oh for fuck's sake, when is that store going to ship out their cards? I'm seriously beginning to think that they're deliberately holding it back so us impatient buyers would cancel so they can sell more 8800GTs to price gouge.

Frys went in on the price gouge... so they are now selling them at stores for 50$ more then you ordered them from, took down the listing from their website... and will probably wait as long as possible before shipping you any because they want to get as much price gouging is possible... hopefully the new AMD card comming out will end price gouging for the GT and make frys finally ship your order...

Selling to what the market will bear may be fine, but to not deliver a product you agreed to sell in favor of selling to someone who is now willing to pay more falls a bit on the shady side.

Oh definitely, it is mean and downright naughty... but they do it because it makes them more money... and as long as they deliver within the maximum time limit provided by the contract of the purchase they are all clear.

These corps make enough money as it is. They don't need to rip people off.

need? no...
Want to? YES!

I bet some corporate execs litterally peed themselves when they cought on to what is going on...

This is the most severe price gouging I have ever seen... you'd think they were selling water to dehydrated people in the desert from the way people are eating it up... no way I am paying 100$ OVER MSRP... I am used to paying at least 50$ UNDER MSRP on etailers...

And they even stick you with a non refundable no returns policy on newegg for these cards only... be careful of it...

I just spoke with another Fry's rep (Ashley, who was extremely nice!). She confirmed that yesterday's order of EVGA cards did NOT come in. They also have no new anticipated arrival dates.

I tend to agree with the others who said that Fry's will likely not fill these orders, since they can sell the cards in-store for $50 more. We'll see...

Well there's no hurt in waiting I suppose, considering that other vendors have ridiculous pricing for the 8800GTs or are not in stock. I'll see where this $229 8800GT goes, if Frys is going to cancel, in which case I'll probably never do business with them again, or if Fry's is going to delay indefinitely, in which case other deals should be out (hopefully).

Yeah, those are my thoughts, too. I'm planning to order everything on Nov. 15th to build my new computer, so I figure I'll wait until the 13th or 14th to cancel if I haven't received either word on the card or a definite ship date by then. No harm in not canceling yet, and I know that if I did the cards would arrive the same day.

Well, good news is that my conspiracy theories regarding Fry's was incorrect. The card shipped out this morning, from Ohio, no less!

Hopefully, anyone else that ordered from Fry's got the good news as well! :]

there is a hurt in waiting... because you ordered it and it should be sent when you ordered it, not held back to price gouge other people...

When they finally have stock AMD and nVidia would have released their next thing and you might have gotten a better deal by waiting yourself, rather then paying them IN FULL and then waiting on them to send you the card.

Well I bought the card from Fry's for $229, so I suppose that's a lot better than the ridiculous price gouged prices of 8800GTs at $300.

yes, but all those people who bought it for 229$ are not getting it... they will supposedly be getting them when the prices drop back from 300$ to 229$... so whats the point? they could have just waited a month and bought it for 229$ then and had the money in their pocket for the intrim... that is the whole issue.

Fry's didn't charge my account until they shipped it, so I could've cancelled any time if I found a good deal with in-stock 8800GTs.

Anyways, I doubt the price gouging's gonna stop anytime soon; even Fry's is price gouging their stock of 8800GTs. The early birds of this card (like Monday at 8AM, October 29th) got the best deals. Prices have been going up since, and is likely to remain until mid-November, if ATI's new chip will create sufficient competition for lowered prices by the e-tailers or after Holiday season is over. The fact of the matter is that 8800GT chips were in short supply, which invariably causes higher prices due to low supply/high demand.

ok, now if frys doesn't charge your card until they ship then it is a completely different story...

And if you can cancel at any time before they ship, then in case the new G92 based GTS is a good deal or the new ATI card rocks you can cancel your order and get it instead...

Two thumbs up for frys then.
