I've been keeping track of this laptop since it was first announced a few months back. There are 3 sizes, 13.3, 14.1, 15.6 but they all are among the lightest/thinnest in their respective categories.

This review shows the 13.3" model lasting for ~8 hours!

I love the idea of the netbook but I think there are just too many compromises but something like this almost completely opens up a new laptop category. It light yet large enough to be a primary computer.

Any personal experiences with this laptop?

I bought one over the weekend. So far I love it. Wal-mart is the only place I could find it everywhere else has it for pre-order.

I've get about 5.5 hrs of battery life. Most of that time was with a study software that required a disc to spin most of the time. I do feel 8hrs could be achieved our surpassed with tasks that require less power.

how is the build quality of the acer timeline? does the keyboard exhibit any flex? Is it light because of mostly plastic construction?

I think is is built well. The keyboard is excellent as well. There is some plastic, but now more than the average laptop. The light weight I believe come from its very small size. It really only an inch thick.

I'm not sure, but I feel you could get close to the 8 hrs. I have not run an entire battery on word yet.

Wow, never had heard of this before today, looks awesome. What is the deal with the single-button below the touch pad though? This is my favorite laptop for under $1k that I have found thus far...

Its just a regular left/right click mouse button. It is basically 2 buttons that are not separated.

I haven't pushed it to hard since I really have no need to. So after about 10 days I am very satisfied with its performance.

I really want to get one of these, but I can't find one with the Core 2 Duo SU900 processor anywhere. They all have the single core processors. Anyone know where I can find one?

Apparently the dual-core is only available in the 13" (which is kind of too bad since I would like an optical drive too). It's also $300 more than the base models, which seems like a large jump. I'm still considering buying one of these though.

what do you usually do with it? if i got one, it would be mainly for school purposes, which include sometimes large office documents and pdfs, viewing videos and music and such. it should handle that right?

It would easily handle that. That is pretty much the same as my needs. The only complaint I can come up with is that I wish it didnt have Vista. Other than that it is perfect for what I need.

I have the SU2700 processor. I haven't tried Widows 7 yet, but plan on it giving it a try when it is officially released.

I've been wanting to pull the trigger on the 13.3 Timeline with the SU3500 Core 2 Solo instead of the SU2700 but only place that carries it is newegg and they are out of stock with no idea when they will have some more. The SU3500 model for $50 more should get a little bit more performance than the SU2700 considering it is Core 2 based and also give you more battery life because it has a 5.5W TDP compared to the 10W TDP of the SU2700. There is a guy on notebook review forums that did a power draw test and the one with the SU3500 actually uses less juice than the eeePC 1000HA with the screen on full brightness. I think the Acer was pushing 15watts compared to ~25watts with the eee.

I've also had my eye on the Acer Timeline, probably 13.3" model. I've found myself using my MSI Wind netbook a lot more than my 15.4" Gateway notebook, but there are times when I wished for a bit... more... from the netbook. I think the 13.3" screen with longer battery life, more powerful CPU (maybe even dual core) and a bit better graphics would do wonders... at only 0.3 pounds more than my netbook.

They have the newer 13.3 inch dual core with 80 GB SSD available at Newegg now... only $799 right now. Seriously tempted to pull the trigger.
