Should work ok with the caveat that "waterproof" is a misnomer when applied to natural materials. I've never had waterproof leather boots, but some have been fairly /resistant/. For (sub)urban use, anything listed as "waterproof" should work fine with proper care and maintenance. If you need absolute waterproofing, you need synthetics. Personally, I'd rather have wet feet than wear rubber.

Wearing rubber will still result in wet feet. The moisture is just sweat.

Of course people have owned those boots, that's like one of the most popular boots ever made.

I've been wanting to get a pair for years.... always put it off, always stuck with hiking/running shoes. Freeze my ass off every year, but heh, I didn't spend like over $150!

I actually want a pair of Hunter rubber boots first. Dealing with melting snow and rain is a bigger bitch than below zero stuff. Not sure I'd trust anything to be completely waterproof... My chest waders started leaking a bit after a day or two of uses -- it included a patching kit.

Bunny or,Mickey Mouse boots from your local military surplus store are a Much better value. They're not only waterproof as opposed to resistant, they're good down to -35.

overkill and too bulky for puddle sidewalks. I love them in snow - impenetrable.

I have very similar boots, they are fine. Boots like that are meant more for winter, than for wet conditions though, they'll handle snow fine, but don't go walking right in water with them, then obviously it will get in.

The weatherpoofing is hit or miss on most leather hiking boots. I can't comment on those particular ones, but I have Timberland leather boots that are waterproof, and they do fine in puddles. I wouldn't wade in them, it will eventually seep through. I tested mine by stepping in ankle deep water a few times to where the tongue gusset ends, and they held up fine. Just keep them oiled up if the leather gets dried up. It's part of the waterproofing.
If you want to be sure without going with rubber puddle boots, go Gore-Tex. I really haven't any luck with anyone else's breathable waterproofed liners. That's why every outdoor footwear company has their own breathable liner and Gore-Tex. It's hard to beat.

Also, to cut down on "sweat". Lotion your feet. Feet sweat isn't your typical body perspiration, its a very smelly gland. The gland will pour on the sweat if your feet get dried up without breathing. Lotion will keep them moist, and might buy you several hours before the glands go ballistic. Also helps with foot odor problems.

I have never heard of this before... Interesting.

I have an old pair of high top tactical boots. Nylon shell, rubber sole. One winter I was wearing these almost continuously and the sole became separated from the shell. Maybe it was defective manufacture, but I think the constant moisture also had something to do with it.

So if you're going to wear the boots every day, invest a boot dryer. The normal type looks like two upright pipes with a small heating element in the base. The newer type you just slip into the boots so you don't need to handle soles, turning them upside down.

Some foot powder doesn't hurt either. I try to avoid the ones with talc because it's not a good idea to breathe that stuff long term. I have a squeeze bottle of Dr. Scholls that work pretty well.

Target the toes and in between them as well. I am lazy, so I bought the spray lotion. Yeah, those are marketed towards girls legs, but who cares. I no longer clear a room when I kick my shoes off.

Not a bad idea. Putting on boots and socks still damp is a short path to fungus. See the thread about all the guys having a hard time clipping toe nails for evidence on how many don't know to take care of the feet.

I switched over from Dakota workboots to timberland pro boondocks this year. I tried on all the brands available in the store (redwing, wolverine, CAT, etx) the only thing close comfort wise were the wolverines. These are the most comfortable boot I've ever worn, more comfortable than my new balance running shoes. I'm pretty heavy so I don't really notice the weight of them, obviously ymmv in this department. I wear them even when I'm not at work, which is rare this last year. Try on a pair, I dare you.
*edit here, just so we know I'm telling the troof. Oh hey look, I'm still at work
These are size 13W

I've been wearing the same pair of Thinsulate boots each winter for about 14 years. They are really great. Buy quality, they'll last forever.
