Thinking of grabbing the demo, see if its worth 15 dollars.

So, Sins of a Solar Empire? At least, thats what it sounds like, lol. I'm d/ling the demo.

I have it and have been playing it a while... It's surprisingly good. Don't expect to be blown away by the graphics, but you can tell the game was made with love. Each mission plays a little like a puzzle that needs to be solved, and you'll almost certainly need to restart a mission occasionally when a particularly nasty scripted event kicks in. There are a bunch of secret objectives to go for, and some are almost impossible to achieve.

Colony management is tricky at first, but simple enough once you know the mechanics. You eventually come up with a standard formula - throw a colony on a planet, two hydro farms so it can reach T1, build a research building so you can see all the mineral deposits on the planet, build other colonies where the deposits are, build 7 farms immediately so you they can grow to T2, and plan for them to expand their borders once they hit T2. It's harder than it sounds when you're doing it for 8 planets in realtime, but fortunately you can pause and think whenever you like.

Combat is not interactive. You decide how a ship class will be equipped, send it where it needs to go, and watch them slug it out. Researching tech is very linear. You won't be able to research advanced hydroponics until you actually need it. The whole game actually plays a bit like a really long, extended tutorial.

Anyway, the game is pretty kickass for the price, and a bonus is you get to support a dev that really cares about their game and interacts with their customers. It's one of the better indie games on Steam.
