Anyone play Magic the Gathering?

I used to play way back when and I just got re-started in it due to my girlfriend's cousin. He is heavily into it and I really love to play. I had the hardest time finding non-nerdy-geek/d&d friends to play the game with.

Anyhow, I bought eight boosters of 8th edition yesterday. I plan to pick up a box on Friday (payday).

Anyone else play?

i do play sometimes but haven't gotten any new cards since seventh addition and i only got a couple boosters then. i love to play but ca't find people to play with.

This is the exact reason why I stopped playing. My girlfriend's cousin is visiting from another state. I think once he leaves this Sunday I'll forget about playing MTG, again.

I used to play online. But now I'm going to be checking out the LOTR game. What's wrong with playing with the nerdy/D&D crowd?

Yeah, finding people can be a trouble. Which is why I tried out the online thing, didn't wokr out that well. Hopefully the LOTR Online game will improve on it.

I used to play, started when 3rd Edition and Dark were out. Stopped around when Stronghold was out I think. Still got all my cards, somewhere around the 5,000 mark. I don't think I'll ever get rid of them.

I still have my cards though, I need to sell them someday.

Yeah, but I'm not that into it. Brother bought these championship decks and we just play with those. Don't want to waste time buying cards and building decks.

i started just before that when legends came out. was like... a month earlier

MTGO is awesome if you like Magic. You get all the different rule sets and all the recent cards! The multiplayer is top notch, the trading is excellent and the presentation is quite well done for a "card" game. My only problem is that I run into a lot of jerks that don't like my decks (guess people don't like losing to an effective deck, go figure). Now I always host my table and keep it timed, that way, they can't do the same ol' drop the connection and wait for me to quit from the game junk.

If I remember my rules right you can only play one land a turn so the first turn Nightmare can only happen with one swamp and three dark rituals and one point of mana burn.

You sac your crit, while I have nothing to sac and you're smirk is gone.

I love MTGO for situations like these. My current favorite MTGO combination is reducing their deck in half (with a blue spell, I don't remember the name of), then running Haunting Echoes. Haunting Echoes and its similar cards are probably the most annoying cards in the game. If you play black, you need this card.

Traumatize. And while it is a fine combo for casual, I haven't seen any serious decks based on it. Definitely fun though.

I started playing when Unlimited had just gone out and I finished when Tempest came out.

I have thousands of cards (including many out of print ones) but I don't play anymore. It's far more productive to spend money on computer related things rather than cardboard cards.

Around 7-8 years ago, Magic was a huge fad at our school and me being enterprising bought a couple of full boxes of packages of magic cards... I made so much money on them while my no one else in my small town (10,000 people) sold those cards. I had about a half box left over after a store came and started undercutting me, but by that time I'd made plenty. I played for a few after it wasn't so popular anymore, but then no one I knew played anymore so I stopped after a couple of 7th edition expansions. A year or so ago while at school i ran across a program that you could play MTG with people on the internet for free, but I didn't play much because with my connection at school for online games you get less than 1k/s (unless it's on the network). I wish I could remember what this program was called but it's escaping me. If anyone know what the name of this program is please post it, 'cause I'd like to start playing again (but wasn't a big fan of MGTO -- who wants to pay for all the cards you already have again?)
