Planetside 2 is incredible. Even if you're alone, it shouldn't be too hard to find where the action is and join the fray cooperatively (regardless of whether you join a squad/outfit).

Nothing like 2,000 player + battles though. Especially with the quality of graphics that game has its pretty incredible.

And its F2P, which makes it amazing imo. Best multiplayer FPS out and nothing on the horizon seems to give it a run for its money except BF4.

I just started playing PS2 last week. The battles can be pretty epic. Being a traditional FPS gamer, I normally just run around as medic/infiltrator and try to cap points and heal and revive teammates. I do find myself getting owned by vehicles quite a bit, whether it's land or air. This is the first F2P game I've considered putting some money in to for new weapons. From what I have read though, it seems the default weapons are actually pretty decent compared to the rest

In my experience thus far, however limited, the game feels and looks like a cross between Halo and BF3. Being free to play, I dont see why anyone (who enjoys FPS) would not want to give this a try. It runs relatively well on my rig in the sig below. I imagine this game runs a bit better on intel chips due to their single-threaded performance advantage over amd.

codyray, there are a great deal of weapons.. some are one of a kind like the AV weapons (ie theres only one or two lockons, rest either hit hard or lots of ammo). Also if you want to snipe, you have to purchase a bolt slider gun (unless you rolled nc). I went the subscription route, im in an active outfit so my cert accumulation is pretty active with the bonus and I still get 500 cash points so I can either pickup a weapon on sale or a couple camos a month.

I mainly play as a pilot these days. I have two characters, a BR 72 NC and BR 32 TR, both on Connery. It's the only game I've been playing on a regular basis (though not as much as lately) for the past 9-10 months. Since release I've put over 500 hours into PS2.

As far as performance goes, PS2 is a great reason to overclock your CPU. You want your i5/i7 clocked as high as it can go for this game. But check your WHEA error log and make sure you're fully stable, because PS2 will build up a lot of those and crash out if you're not.

I'm a BR 30 NC on Connery. I really wish I had gone TR because they look a lot cooler ... haha

If you play with a group it is easily the best shooter ever. Not so if you try to play it solo.

I have fun with both. If I'm on for a while, I hop onto my outfit's platoon. If I'm not going to be on for long, I'll just jump into a reaver and fly around or help with a push can cap a few points before logging off.

I'm a level 33 NC on Connery and I only lone wolf and have tons of fun. I don't want to be constrained by feeling obligated to other people in a group. I'm not sure what the benefit would be for me.

You seem to think the game requires you to like vehicle based combat? If you work in squads, your vehicle usage is basically riding in galaxies until you get to your drop point. You don't need to touch them otherwise. Infact you can make it your personal goal to become an AV/AA terminator. The less enemy armor around the better.

You said what I said and then tried to debunk it by prefacing your rebuttal with a qualifier.

lol wow

OP, these people are being honest and the first guy, Mark's, post is as accurate an assessment as you will find:

My perception at the time I last played, a couple of months ago, was that air was just owning infantry and armor

I'll just jump into a reaver and fly around or help with a push can cap a few points before logging off.

I do find myself getting owned by vehicles quite a bit, whether it's land or air.

I mainly play as a pilot these days.

I'm more of an arena-shooter kind of guy, but enjoyed BF: BC2.

BF3 pissed me off. Other than the SP campaign, utter waste of money IMO.

PS2 is the sole reason I'm not really looking forward to BF4, in all honesty. Having a blast with it, and feel that need to have to play it every day.

The gunplay, sounds (GREAT low-frequency effects - kudos to the sound engineers!) and physics are top-notch. I also find the graphics utterly beautiful, especially from an artistic point of view. The PhysX particle effects are simply icing on the cake. Real-time explosions never looked better.

As soon as I join games, I make it a habit to join a squad (outfit-related or not). Coordinated attacks, defense, and the humourous commentary make the experience that much more worthwhile.

I saw Amazon has some sort of packs 50% off - 2 for each faction.

Are any worth getting? Hard to know which faction to pick as a new (not yet) player.

Best thing you can do is probably a subscription - you get station cash and will earn certs faster, which allows you to unlock guns quicker. You also would get access to an addition 50% off item each day.

Station cash occasionally has 3 for 1 sales, which you can get 4 for 1 if you activate a card bought from Walmart on those days.

In terms of factions, the general idea is:

TR - high rate of fire, relatively inaccurate, low damage per shot
NC - low rate of fire, relatively accurate, high damage per shot
VS - overpowered (just kidding) - they tend to be versatile, moderate accuracy, rate of fire, and damage per shot

For vehicles
NC - slow, armored, hit hard
TR - moderate speed, moderate armor, fast rate of fire, medium damage
VS - most mobile, weakest armor, medium damage

Smooth, barring huge Biolab fights.

Keep GPU PhysX particle settings at medium/ low.

If you guys haven't played since the first Performance Upgrade patch a couple weeks ago, you should. It has improved things dramatically. Still two more to go for Esamir and Amerish optimization passes.

I played for a few months, and have thought about booting it back up again. It just became sort of the usual vehicles rape infantry experience these mixed battle-mode games always seem to turn into.

This game would be cool but the lack of point makes it boring to me. Its pretty much just like every other shooter except on a persistent map. I was hoping for a lot more. I noticed they changed the website to not say "strategy on a massive scale" or whatever it used to say. Because the game really doesnt require strategy because there is no objective, its just a never ending game of team death match. I was hoping it would have an over all objective that the factions were fighting for but thats not the case. You basically just grind XP because XP is the currency used for everything.

You need to wait for continent locking. I'm guessing that should be out early next year. SOE really released the game early without working things out. Now it is taking longer to work on things because they also need to run the game while developing it. Might have already burned out a significant percent of the players by releasing it without a reason to keep playing.
