Anyone played Prison Architect?

I watched some of the development of this and was interested. They had been working on algorithmic design of game worlds for a number of years. They also realized that they didn't really have a game with all the work they developed (initially they were thinking something along the lines of Nethack + Syndicate), but it just didn't really work out to be "fun". But using a lot of the underlying engine, they developed Prison Architect.

I didn't know they finally released it. I have a lot of their other games, and have been a longtime fan of them in general. Uplink was truly amazing at the time (and is still very fun, I think I have bought it at least 3 times).

Have several hours into it, it's an awesome game, so much deeper already than the graphics would probably lead you to believe. I'm also really happy that they added Steam Workshop support, because people are already putting some super crazy prisons up on Steam to check out.

Highly recommended if you're a fan of Introversion's work.

TO be honest, I have never heard of them before yesterday. Since Fallen Kell recommends "Uplink" so highly, I will have to check that one out.

I don't know how well the new purchases of Uplink are. The original game CD had some files that you needed to hack allowing you to find some extra in-game content/easter eggs. It gets a little repetitive, which is why they then patched LANs into the game as well, which are algorithmic random designed, and can be quite challenging. Also, you ruin it if you simply read an online guide. Do yourself a favor and don't read a guide! It is a much more enjoyable experience trying to figure out what you need to do, simulating exactly life of a new hacker bumbling his way along figuring things out as he goes, learning new skills, and how to use the tools available as well as how to cover your tracks and not get caught. Everything you need to learn is available for you in the game. Read the newsboards, and the information databases. Decide for yourself who to trust...

There are also some mods that have been released added new content, replacing graphics or sounds. Personally I really liked the original artwork design and the atmospheric music.

I was having stability issues with release #9 of Prison Architect, but the little bit I played was pretty fun. I'm going to hold off until there is a final build.

I haven't played since like alpha 4, but it was fun. You basically build prison cells, power plant, water plant, exercise rooms, holding cells, loading docks, kitchens, bathrooms, etc. You hire accountants, prison guards, wardens, medical staff, cooks, etc.

Then you have to manage your creation. It's not as easy as it may sound! Layout is very important as well as providing recreation for the inmates. If you don't have sufficient or good coverage with your guards then inmates smuggle weapons from the kitchen and go on a stabbing spree. All hell can break loose if your not careful and all that you worked so hard to create can literary be burned to the ground.

Last I played they were working on giving inmates the ability to dig tunnels under ground from their cells to escape.

BTW, I think Introversion is best know for their game Darwinia.

I watch the update videos on Youtube. I don't want to get tired of playing the game before it's complete, like I did with Minecraft.

Looks good now but as above, I'm wary of making a purchase due to progress/time/possible failure etc.

Will certainly be gracing my "keep an eye on" list because it looks like it could be fun, with a mix of a Sim-City type with the intimacy of one of the Kairosoft Android/iOS games and the crew/character manipulation of FTL.

I'm going to pick it up after I get back from camping. I enjoy building games, and it looks interesting, plus I put a lot of stock in games that seem expensive for what they are; most likely there is a reason it's $30, and that reason is that the game is probably really good. This only applies to indie games though; nothing from major studios.

I got Kerbal Space Program for $23, which seems a lot for an alpha, and it's only at .21 now - and I have 135 hours played so far, with another couple of hundred of hours left easy (only visited one planet outside of Kerbin's influence so far).

I also give a one up for Uplink. I've played it several times throughout the years and it remains fun. It's a good laptop game when on the go as well since it can be played on practically anything. I would really appreciate a good sequel.

They said the final release version will only be $20, or something like that. The public alpha is expensive ($30), and their plan is to gradually decrease the price as new versions of the game are released.

So it's kind of like Minecraft or KSP, where the earlier you buy it, the less you pay... except it's exactly the opposite.

There's a reason for the bloated price tag. They said something like "We're charging an increased price for it right now, so the game will only be purchased by people who REALLY want to play it. Dedicated fans who pay a higher price will have a better idea of what they're getting into, and since it's an unfinished game, they'll be more likely to report bugs and give higher quality feedback.

"Contrastly, if we were to release the alpha for cheap ($10 or $15), a lot more clueless people would buy it, not understand that it's an alpha/unfinished game, and flood our forums and complain about it." Or something to that extent.

So basically the game is $30 so the developers can improve the signal/noise ratio regarding feedback.

Does towns suck that bad, I think I saw if for $10, I like what they're trying to do.
you got two nays, Im in for good game..

Towns is like any other god game, its just a bit harder as there are no instructions and a boatload of options/micro management.. 4 friends all checked it out when i was playing, all 4 bought it.. none have killed me yet..

but .. to each there own..

as for Prison Architect, grab Theme Park of GoG same game, just change inmates to park visitors.

To those who have played Prison Architect, is there a way to use your workers to do prison uniforms? From what I can see, the only way to get them washed is to make the prisoners do it...

AFAIK: You need both Deployment (Chief research) and Prison Labour (Foreman?) researched

Enclose the laundry room with walls and a door (might need a jail door but don't think so). Place a washing machine and laundry basket inside. Click on the Deployment button along the bottom toolbar, select jobs and you should be able to assign prisoners to the laundry room (very much like the cleaning cupboard or the workshop).

PS: You may require an ironing board too... I've never tried a Laundry Room without one so always thrown one in.
