I got it last night... didn't get to play too much so I still have to figure out the basics.

A good example is it seemed like for some reason people REALLY liked poisoning me last night... I made it to the infirmary once, but didn't know who or how to ask for help so I ended up vomitting all over the room and eventually died laying across the bed. It wasn't pleasant.

I did get a very nice throwing axe kill though as a guy ran away from me down the hallway.
Come to think of it... it's probably a good thing that a passenger didn't come out of their room as the axe flew by huh?

Oh and here's The Ship website.

Sounds cool, specially Mutilator's description. However, I think I'll wait until I read some reviews before shelling out the dough.

EDIT:

I read a bit about it in the website and I must say, that, in paper, it sounds awesome. Hopefully it will be implemented as well to prevent it from becoming Quake on a ship and just a bunch of 11 year olds exploiting guard mechanics and yelling 'LOLOLOL pwnDn00b0z0rz'. I'm normally not a big fan of multiplayer FPS but this has promise.

If anyone has played the game please share your experiences!

Yeah I agree... sounds pretty cool with Mutilators description.

I seen the Steam News on it but thought it was ship building or something heh. So I just closed the window. I havent seen anything else on it like discussion or reviews. Please share your experiences.

Seems interesting and possibly fun. Wish there was a demo. I do see that it was originally a HL1 mod. Since I got Steam Silver HL2 I could download HL1 again and get the mod I assume? That would at least give a decent idea on the gameplay.

Theres going to be a weekend where you'll be able to play the game for free, similar to what they did for 'DOD Source'.

Having played it for a couple days, there are some instances where you can get fustrated, but the dev team is very responsive to making the tweaks necessary. It is a slower paced game that requires planning and though. Most of the 11 year olds have already vented their fustration with the game on the forums and moved on because of this.

Another gameplay video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyscCH7nVoE&search=the%20ship

I must say after playing it for several hours today with several others on teamspeak this game is definately growing on me. Yes it is slower paced than your average FPS and some of the ships as massive but the servers fill up very fast. I recommend playing The Hunt mode vs Elimination though if you want a faster paced game. Oh and remember to press the M key to see what weapon gives you the most $$$ for kills. Axe is easy to find but almost always only gives $100. Find things like a wrench, hammer, or walking stick and really rack up the dough. Oh, and flare guns are always entertaining... just don't stand too close.

How many players to a server? How exactly do you know where your one enemy is, and how can you tell who your hunter is without them actually attacking you (or can you)? Is it more Quake style or Metal Gear style of play? Do people try to be incognito, or is it actual players running around everywhere while NPC's are walking around in their scripted paths?

I might pick this one up......

Most servers have 16 people, but there are ones for 8 or 32 as well.

You are given the name of your enemy at the beginning of each round. You click on people near you, and it will tell you their name. If they are your target, their picture will show up on your screen. Their location is given to you every 30 seconds.

You can't tell who your hunter is until they kill you. Usually, only a hunter will attack you. I believe they are going to fix it so you know who your hunter is once they hit you.

Its more Metal Gear style I would say, but 1st person.

Some people are incognito. It depends on how sneaky you want to be.

NPCs are only hunters and passengers if the server is not full.

not sure.

ok, i just played online. extremely slow in trying to find our target if you don't know the ship layout. also, the whole thing about being hunted makes you really paranoid.

i ended up killing this one guy who kept humping my leg but he wasn't even my hunter so i don't know wtf he was doing.

Thanks, I think I'll pick this one up and try it out. A free trial weekend is probably a while out.

The game got quite the learning curve for an online multiplayer game. It definately can be a bit fustrating trying to learn the UI, find weapons, hunting down your target, and fulfilling your needs. However, after a while it plays together very nicely.

What makes people get through the initial fustrations are the murder scenerios that you create. They are very unique and humorous. You'll find yourself telling all your friends about how you followed your target to the bathroom and then shot them while on the toilet.

Is there any punishment for killing everyone? Seems to me it would be more fun to just mow everyone down....

I just downloaded the game, and hopped into a single-player match to get a feel for things. The game looks fairly interesting, although I can't seem to figure one thing out. Whenever I pull out my weapon (it's always been the axe, I don't know where other stuff is yet), no matter where I'm at, I get caught and go to jail. There will be nobody around, and I'll still get caught. What am I doing wrong?

iamaelephant - yes you get fined for each non hunter/quarry kill and eventually get kicked (depending on server settings)
blurredvision - you have to make sure you're not on camera or being witnessed by someone else - you'll see a camera or eye icon show up in bottom right corner. And the other weapons are scattered around in boxes, trash cans, etc. Just watch what other people open up to find weapons.

The more I play the more I like it... but the more frustrating it gets. Now that I know how to look up the big money kill weapons, and where to find them most of the time, it's very VERY annoying to have the $15K weapon, right behind your quarry, whip it out and either get arrested or killed by your hunter who happened to be following you around too. Argh that's happened a dozen times this weekend.

I got it last night and gave it a whirl in single player. It seems like the "needs" stack up pretty fast and are hard to keep up with. For some reason I had to shower and eat. By the time I finished both I had to shower again?!?!

Does anyone know of an online manual? I can't figure out how to read a book. I've clicked it, added it to inventory, clicked it in inventory, sat down and tried to access it. Any ideas?

I was also getting some weird performance with sound hickups every 60 seconds or so. The HL2 engine has always played flawlessly on my system, this had some issues. It also crashed on exit. Quite odd for a HL2 engined game.

You can read a book by pulling up your inventory and right clicking on the book (same way you change clothes).
Remember anytime you eat, drink, or go to the bathroom you have to wash your hands afterwards to keep the shower need down.
But yeah the needs, at least on some characters, seem to climb much faster than the others. Seems like every time I'm a black woman I have to sleep a lot more often...
