Anyone playing those browser strategy games?

I remember like four years ago, anandtech started a guild on a game called might and magic. It was a browser game and I had a pretty fun time with the guild.

Can we do something like that again?

AstroEmpires is really good, but I had to stop after a couple years because it was so much of a time sink. Especially when a Server War would break out that would last for weeks. I had to schedule my sleep based upon when my fleets would arrive to their destination, then coordinate attacks, always needing to be ready to abort or move at a moments notice. It was fun, but damn what a commitment.

The only Browser game I play now is Hobowars, which someone here started a thread on almost 9 years ago and who I joined from.

What about other strategy games like the ones you can play in facebook? I am playing SPARTA: WAR OF EMPIRES now. Its cool. Plus it has a mobile version now too

Its hard to say. Some of the games require money to actually thrive, with limits to bases or expansion unless you pay up.

By far the best browser game Ive played was Castlot. It had a great mix of things to do. City building, research, attacking, defending. A good clan system. Plus got to upgrade and equip your heros to win duals. The pay to win aspect was not too overboard. People could buy teleports, to swoop in on you, but it was hard for them to keep your towns. There are also events like world war every so often which were fun to join in on.
The downside is that the servers quickly emptied when a new world opened up.
Basically every week they would open a new one, and everyone would flee for the next one, leaving the place fairly empty. What killed it for me was when they decided to merge a bunch of servers together. I was ported into a server that had been going for 6 months longer, which had opps that were way too high level to defend off.
The game looks to be all but dead now. No new servers have been opened up lately, which is a shame, as it was a fairly balanced game.

The ATOT astro empires guild died long ago. There are only one or two of us still playing on the fenix server and we are all in different guilds. Server is dead anyway. The big guilds just about killed each other off and farmed the little guilds to death...

I used to play Ultimate Dominion a LOT. It is no longer a real thing. I wish it was.

That was a lot of fun. Complete domination and once we took over everyone stopped playing.

That was awesome. Does anyone remember the name of the clan/group/team that was #1 and talked smack until we completely destroyed them?

The age of web browsing games like that has probably ended. IF anything, we need to start up an ATOT cell phone game like clash of clans or something.

All of the free online games I've tried that are browser interface have turned out to be huge time sinks and pay to win. I played Evony for a couple years, and its like people have said you start planning real life around chores in the game. The power heirachy is heavy payers kick everyone elses behind, followed by light paying insane playtime players (ie resource stacking from dozens of alt accts), non payers who think they have a chance until mid game or end reality sets in, casual player everybody else whomps on.

I currently play Command and Conquer online, but don't plan to continue on a new world once my world objectives are done.

I'd consider another game if a group joined that was strong enough to make a good alliance.

I've been playing C&C Tiberium for a while (lvl 25), but hitting a wall. Built up decently enough, but FAR from being able to defend myself against big players. Seems like it would take forever to reach their level. No variety....collect resources, crush two camps, and sign out.

Well I usually play those browser games on my phone so I expect them to be time sinks.


Anyways, right now we can wait until a Travian server restart and make a guild off that.

Looks like there is a tribal wars2 now. New server started up yesterday. There is an android app as well. I definitely dont have the time for it right now though...
