Anyone psyched for VS 2010?

Given the new WPF UI it's understandable that a few UI issues would crop up, let's hope they get around to fixing it at some point

Not really, and I doubt that it ever will fully support the standard. According to the dev team there just isn't enough demand for it to justify the investment.

On another point, has anyone else noticed that 2010 occasionally opens solutions in full-screen mode, apparently for reasons of its own? I use a widescreen monitor and have multiple solutions open most of the time, so I never run fullscreen, and I'm not sure where it got the idea that I wanted to .

Nope haven't had that happen. Are you opening VS then having it open the solution or opening the solution directly?

Double-clicking the solution from the folder.

Hrm, that is odd. The only thing I can think of is when it happens, close all other instances of VS that you have open then set up that bad window to be how you want it and close it last. Then reopen it to see if that worked.

I had issue with multiple VS sessions open and changing font colors (http://studiostyles.info/ rocks) reverting depending on what order I closed them, but you aren't doing anything full screen to trigger this and are likely already doing what I said above. Sorry I can't help more but if I notice it happen (I open from Source Control though so end up not opening solutions in the same way you do) I will pay more attention to what I did.

Something else made me super-happy: when you pause your cursor on a variable, all occurrences of that variable within the scope are now highlighted. So if you're in a method and you're processing a parameter, the IDE recognizes that that parameter is part of the method signature, and highlights only the necessary occurrences. KICKASS! I have been waiting for this feature since 2005... good thing MS is listening.

Heh, been on VS 2010 since monday and didnt even notice that. It takes a couple seconds to kick in, and it's a light gray, barely noticeable. Perhaps I will find the setting for it and make it yellow or orange, to make it more useful.

Anyone noticed the camel-cased intellisense? You can type the acronym of a property or method and it will find it. For example, try writing Console.WL and WriteLine will pop up.

They finally added some of the Resharper features by default! I gotta say that the changes to Intellisense made by Resharper in VS2008 were night and day so I'm very happy that some of those made it into VS2010 permanently.

I have VS 2005 and 2008 from MSDN AA while at school but I no longer have access to it. I've been thinking about dabbling in some .NET development (primarily have worked on embedded systems and Unix shell dev only) so I may have to just get VS 2010 Express. I'm not sure it's limitations but I doubt for my basic usage that I'd need anything from the Standard or Pro series so I might as well get into the latest and greatest.

I want to stay in embedded development but it wouldn't hurt to expand my skills and all I hear about is .NET and Silverlight and all this fancy stuff.

OMG How did I miss this? VS2010 allows for "Box Select" so you can edit multiuple lines at once!

say you have this:

private int blah;
private int foo;
private int bar;

But want to change them all to protected instead of private. Before you had to edit each line individually.

but now, just hold down the ALT key, drag a "box" around the privates with your mouse. Now type protected, it edits all 3 lines at once.

I've never been a fan of VS over the years, although I thought 2008 was an improvement. While i haven't used 2010 yet, i have heard from friends that its great..so will be picking it up soon!
