Geez. I'm all for enforcing a "turn your ringer" off policy in certain places, but that's just a major abuse of power. The panel did the right thing.

Lawsuit. Bunch of them. False imprisonment...etc.

I'm not a huge proponent of suing people, but this is just wrong.

I don't see where it says they were in jail for a week.

After all the defendants denied having the phone or knowing who it belonged to, Restaino sent 46 people to jail. Fourteen who were unable to make bail were handcuffed and jailed for several hours.

btw-it was probably the bailiff's phone.

The dumbass shouldve just had everyone immediately line up their phones in front of them and have the bailif check the time of the last call.

While this is a massive abuse of power, and he was being an idiot, at the same time, he probably just snapped. Kind of hard to be rational when your brain is going haywire.

His courtroom.

He went over the top, but I got a good laugh at it.

that does not matter. just because you are in his courtroom does not mean you give up rights.

he can't just search you call records. seems like that would be a illegal search.

Its a law that they must be silenced/off while in the room. So if one went off, it's a broken law, all persons are subject to a reasonable search, i think.

Even if there was a call at the correct time, you wouldn't know if that phone was on mute and the real phone was just hidden in someone's ass?

Funny thing is, he admitted that it was basically "stressors in his personal life" that led him to take such an action. Clearly, he was not thinking rationally, there's absolutely no way he would be able to get away with such an action.....

Kind of hard to not be a murderer when you're stabbing a guy in the throat.
