Nope.

I only enjoyed the first one and Blood Dragon in the series, can't care about #5. Maybe one day if they come up with Far Cry: Cretaceous I'll give it a try. Instead of climbing radio towers in that one we'll have to climb the necks of Titanosaurs and sit on their head to reveal more of the surrounding map. I'd have fun doing that.

Can I play Far Cry 4 using Steam or do I need Ubisoft?
If Far Cry 3 is any indication, loading the game via Steam will redirect you to UPlay which is required. I've had Far Cry 4 in my library since it was released, but I've yet to play it.

I guess I'm in the minority since I don't mind climbing radio towers to reveal more map. I personally enjoy going into an area blind until I find something that lets me see where I am. I just wish they were less straightforward and more like a puzzle.

Ubisoft open world games are all the same. You climb a tower, reveal the map, and have more useless side things to do in the revealed portion. You repeat this for 10 hours while maybe fighting a boring enemy with graphics we've seen before with a new skin over the top. Far Cry is assassin's creed without the religious conspiracy angle to me. TIt seems like they are trying to be edgy with the american cult angle. Just doesn't feel like an original idea.

As far as open world games go I prefer something much more out there where you can have more interesting creatures and storylines attached to the world. Fantasy stuff with dragons and mystical beasts like Skyrim and Witcher 3, exotic alien worlds in Mass Effect, post apocalyptic mysteries like Fallout and Horizon Zero Dawn. The only open world games grounded in reality that I actually like anymore are from Rockstar. Mostly because with GTA everything is on the table and it's all satire, it doesn't try to be serious and I like that. Though Red Dead Redemption was really well done too. I'm just no longer a fan of any of Ubisoft's open world titles.

Can't agree more. Ubisoft was supposed to be the promised one. But it ended up following the same formula as EA. Same old games with nothing new and yet, we keep buying them like they're hotcakes. Rockstar's open-world titles are also different because they come out like once in 5 years and thus feature better visuals and significant improvements over their predecessors There have been like 3 GTAs since Sand Andreas but I've already lost count of Assassins' Creed.

Far Cry might keep following the same formula, but I personally like that formula. Far Cry was amazing (except how long it was), Far Cry 2 was pretty boring honestly, but they ramped it up with Far Cry 3, and since then (just started playing FC4), it's still a fun series. I was able to play Primal for a while off my buddy's account when I built him a new computer and it was still fun.

So long as the games are fun, I don't care what formula they follow. Now, for GTA's sake, the games stopped being fun in lieu of "realism", starting with IV and V only made things worse. With San Andreas, you could do everything that made GTA fun in the first place and more, but with the introduction of the "realistic setting" GTA games, what we have is pedestrians calling the cops on us for standing too close to them. Or the peds attack us and when we defend ourselves, we get the cops called on us. Or you could be in the fastest car in the game and the cops can still catch up to you and ram you off the road. Or you can be in a freaking tank and the cops can still ram you off the road. Rockstar stopped making GTA fun, so I never bought GTA V after I played through the main story and if they don't change something drastically, I won't be buying any future GTA games either. Far Cry, on the other hand, if they made FC5 under the same formula they have been, I'll probably pick it up when it goes on sale.

Edit: The trailer on Steam (available for pre-purchase now) doesn't show much. It's suspiciously vague which tells me they don't want any specific protagonist for any story-related reason. They just want some no-name to come in and stop a cult for "reasons". Based on the trailer, I'll definitely wait until it's on sale. A big sale. Like 75% off kind of sale.

Every Ubisoft game in the past 5-6 years have been extremely underwhelming, except Blood Dragon and R6 Siege. I've written off Ubisoft as being incapable of making a good game like the days of yore - Prince of Persia, Chaos Theory etc.
Heck, the last single-player FPS by Ubisoft that I really enjoyed, apart from Blood Dragon, was Call of Juarez Gunslinger - and that wasn't even made by one of their in-house development teams!

But Far Cry 5 has got me mildly interested.

I thought FC3 and FC4 were awesome. I couldn't really get into Primal however. I'm sure I will purchase this new one and enjoy it. Now if we could just get a Linux port ....

I like Rocksmith ALOT, and the new VR game Star Trek Bridge Crew is pretty awesome as well. They kicked it out of the park (granted I realize that is a small player base overall).

Ha! I didn't even realize that those games were published by Ubisoft. They've become too much like EA.

Oh and how can I forget to mention SP:The Stick of Truth? But that's something unique, which could be said of most Ubisoft titles back in the mid 2000s.

Personally, I intend to boycott Far Cry 5 for several years until it's like $10-20 on steam for several reasons:

1)They pump them out too fast, which to me diminishes the value of every individual game in the series. I understand programmers gotta eat, but I am still playing Far Cry 3 which between it's DLCs and the core game has plenty of graphics and gameplay to occupy me for months to come. I understand many people beat Far Cry 3 already, but you gotta be a maniac to have already finished Far Cry 4 + all DLC and Far Cry Primal, AND have time for all the other numerous games out there.... It's mind boggling.

2)The system requirements are too steep. My video card can easily handle about 80% of all games out there, minus some 2015-2017 AAA titles. I see no point why a game should have such high requirements when other games look just as good but require much less GPU power. I refuse to feed in to this trend where higher end hardware is constantly being pushed, when last gen hardware was never even fully realized or taken advantage of with enough titles.

3)In between the myriad games available right now for PC, Wii U, PS3, 4 and Xbox 360/One, Nintendo 3DS, I can certainly wait till Far Cry 5 is very cheap and so are the GPUs that will run it on ultra settings.

Yea, I'm with you. I probably won't buy it for awhile because I haven't beat Pong yet. Not sure why anyone would need another game when I'm pretty sure NO one has beat pong yet.

Honestly, this one interests me more than 2,3,4 or Primal. The others were pretty generic in terms of their story, except for 1.

Boycott? Did you meant to say you simply won't purchase the game? Pretty sure not buying a game and making one post about it here isn't protesting anything.

looks like it blows harder than a tornado
unless they have some type of program that will pay me to play it
farcry is a series of caricatures for the bored or braindead
perhaps they should make one where you shoot up ubi studios
that would at least be semi interesting

People complaining about Ubisoft sequels gets old

There was 1 year between Doom (1993) and Doom II (1994) and the game is basically exactly the same gameplay and graphics

There is less innovation between Doom and Doom II than there was between AC: Brotherhood and AC: Revelations which is the most complained about part of the series, yet when Doom II came out everybody was all over it

Why does Ubisoft get shat on repeatedly where other companies get a pass?

Why are people telling others to play FC4? Its almost an exact clone of FC3, its one of the most half assed games in recent memory. 5 will be junk too most likely.

While I get your overall point, it isn't even remotely a good comparison based solely on 'when it came out'. A better comparison would be CoD, however, the same attitude applies to those as well.

Well, FC3 was fun and since FC4 is more of the same, it is also fun. This thread pushed me to start FC4 since it's been sitting in my library for a very long time and it's a blast. I don't really like how the paths are pretty black and white and I'm sure it will give you a similar choice as you had in FC3, but the world is big enough that I'm finding plenty to do and the outposts are actually fun to do this time around.

My only gripe with the game is how easy it is to unlock pretty much everything right out of the gates. Almost all the craftables are available right from the start, but most guns are locked for way too long. As in, you get both bows right off the bat, but I'm 60% through the main game and still haven't unlocked the crossbow yet... doesn't make much sense. And the requirement of getting Rank 10 in the arena is a bit silly since it's just non-stop grinding. It would be different if the arena battles changed, but they don't. They should have taken a page from Borderland 2's book about arena fights. I think I'm rank 6 and I really don't want to continue just for that signature.

All in all, I still don't understand why people have to try to be critics about everything. Video games are meant to be fun, not judged based on how realistic the facial expressions are or if the game reuses animations from previous games. If it's fun, then play it. If you don't find it fun, move on to something else.

Has Ubisoft given up on "The Prince of Persia"? I've been waiting for one since "The Two Thrones".
