Anyone remember crt displays?

I wouldn't say it's ridiculous. With different pixel shape and layout the jagged edges can be less noticable.

Yes I meant naturally "anti-aliased". I know what he is referring to, and I don't personally like that image type because it's as if you're gaming on a TV. Good for low resolution, but I haven't seen a CRT match the sharpness and fidelity of 1440p or 2160p.

Great for old NES games though.

You sound like someone who is stuck at 1600x1200 19" CRT gaming and has never experienced 4k gaming on a 40+ inch LG/Samsung.

I agree with modern LCDs being better in every aspect, however, no one has ever experienced 4k gaming besides few guys around some tech forums, so 4K gaming definitely does not make CRT inferior if taken from large scale view.

The thing I liked about CRT is that they could run multiple resolutions natively. I could run different games at a different rez no problem. These days displays only have a single resolution and stretch and distort everything not native to fit. I used to have something called the Sony FW900. I would still probably be using it today if it hadn't croaked.

The text eventually starts getting blurry after years of use on a CRT. I stopped using my old 19" Mitsubishi Diamondtron around 2005. When I fired the monitor up around 2011 I was surprised how blurry the text was. It's one of those things you don't notice until you stop using the monitor for awhile then come back to it.

I remember getting my 17" Viewsonic (and Windows 98!!!) and being sooooo excited. It really was an excellent display, but what a beast. I wish I could say I miss it, but my new Acer 24" IPS is, dollar for dollar (and edge to edge), the best tech investment I've made in some time.

Yep 4:3 was superior. When wide screen originally came out, it was basically the same res as 4:3 but with the top cut off, it was completely pointless. Now HD is better than the resolutions we had back then, but even now I find it stagnated and we're not getting anything better coming out. With computers more res is always better as it means more work space. Even phones have higher resolution than computer monitors now. 4k is still very niche and expensive. I think you need a super beefy video card for it as well. If phones can do super high resolutions, not sure why computers can't. (without it costing an arm and a leg)

Even the business market haven't been able to make the producers come up with better monitors. Highly paid people with huge spreadsheets are running old dual 1080p monitors at my work place... *shrug*

I'm still on my 5+ years old 30" 1600p IPS monitor and while I definitely WANT to upgrade, there's nothing for me that's noticably better except a resolution increase to 4K which would just punish me in games, and I would rather have other image quality features before that (HDR, better respons time, OLED, 120hz+++).

Yep. For me it was feasible to drop the resolution for better performance because the graphics were still nicely in focus. LCDs look in varying grades of awful depending on the settings if they're not set to their optimal resolution. Having said that, playing RTCW at 1280x1024 on my 1080p monitor wasn't completely awful.

Yup, my old Iiyama S900 really sucked in its last days, I think I had to have either brightness or contrast set to max to make it usable.

That I don't know. I haven't done anything fancy with mine . . . it just runs a crappy spare 15" lcd I use for portability when setting up otherwise-headless machines.
