Burn in.
They needed a screen saver.
Fuckin heavy.

You can say that again, the beast I had was only 17", but took up 1/2 my desk, and weighed 65lbs, also the heat and the whine of the CRT tube, and the CRT I had also had a degaussing function.
The picture on it was awesome though, I do miss that aspect, but, I can live without the rest.

I remember driving from Cincinnati to Cleveland for my first 21" Sony CRT monitor. Thing was a beast but damn was it beautiful at the time. Tomorrow I get my 34" 4k curved widescreen monitor (x34).... Oh how have times changed.....

I still have my 22" crt in the basement my wife got me for my birthday about 13 years ago. Id love nothing more then to go get it and use it again, but damn, the real estate it takes up on my desk is what stops me

If I bet on that, will I end up getting a huge shipment of useless monitors at my doorstep? It looks like its an auction for the whole damn lot.

That would depend on what arrangements you made to have them removed, within 10 days of the end of the auction, from the pick-up site. They have already helpfully palletized them for you and, fortunately, or so on presumes, "mutilation is not required". (It is not at all clear who or what might, but for that apparently key phrase, have to be mutilated.)

So how big and heavy would a 27" QHD CRT need to be exactly?

I remember purchasing a 27" Sony CRT HD television from Circuit City and promptly returning it due to the ridiculous size and weight of the thing.

I miss the display quality of my Diamondtron(it's still in a closet, but doesn't work), but I don't miss that it's only 19" and freakin so heavy.

That was the last CRT I owned, it was still working but I had just bought my first LCD so I retired it. I tried selling it on Craigslist, no bites, I tried giving it away for free, no bites. I ended up putting it front of my house for an electronic waste pickup to take away. If you do want these things, you should be able to get them for next to nothing.

My last crt was a sony Trinitron g400 a super heavy 19" flat screen that was excellent back in the day and without a doubt the best crt I ever owned. I swapped it out with a planar 20" ips panel back in '03 and I haven't looked back since.

That's likely because they handle liquidation that may or may not include hard drives among other things and letting data out is a no go.

I'm still rocking a Sony FW900 for my twitch gaming and I will cry big tears if it ever dies. No LCD comes close in motion clarity or input lag. When playing Quake your limbs feel like they disappear and only your brain controls whats on screen. I've been unable to emulate this feeling from any modern display. All of these lightboost hacks are just that, hacks with lag. No thanks...

100% I would buy CRT over LCD if I could.

This. If they could cram the CRT down in size while keeping the screen the same. When LCD's first came out ghosting was horrible, visuals were grainy, and color deposition was blurred. So much better now, but you can't beat a CRT (except in weight and physical size)

This would have been SED/FED TV. I believe that only Sony and AU Optronic (sp?) are still active with some level of R&D, but it's unlikely that we'll ever see it again. It's currently OLED's turn to shine.

So, how do you make a 4K CRT? The capacitance of the tube will limit the frequency and therefore resolution unless you can handle frame rates of, say, 10Hz.

There is no way you can (that I can think of). The closest would be DLP using mirrors.
