Dude, if LucasArts released a version of Tie Fighter with updated graphics/physics/whatever, I'd pay $400 for it. Still in my opinion the single best flight sim, except maybe for the original Red Baron.

Gimme Tie Fighter, Red Baron, the old Microsoft Flightstick, and a case of beer, and I can survive for months.

Did you google it and search the sites that sell it?

I wish they got back to decent games like this.

Tie Fighter is my #1 absolute favorte all-time PC game. Ever. I remember I was 14 or 15, and made a notebook filled with every single secret mission objective.

It really was one of the best games ever made, and I would also pay a ridiculous amount for an updated, XP-compatible version.

Only ever played Tie Fighter. It was awesome except I had to cheat when taking out the huge ships; you can't take them out with one payload of bombs...

TIE Fighter was awesome. I was young though, so I turned on invulnerability and I used to sit inside the capital ship and unload torpedoes on them till they blew up.

In X-Wing I dogfought the invulnerable and won with lasers : ) All my friends thought I was the shit. Then the next mission it was back and you get the shuttle full of explosives to land in it.

I played Tie Fighter first and then went back to play X-Wing. Tie Fighter is definitely superior

I really wish they would remake it, but I'm not sure how well it would sell. The space flight sim genre was never incredibly popular, and the genre's popularity is fairly low right now.

Doubt they'll do a remake of anything, since they got a bad case of "console-itis" these days.

TIE Fighter was my first love. My friends all said I had an addiction. I thought it was a much more immersive game and better all-around that X-Wing.

I bought it a few years ago and it would only play on my Win2K craptop so I ended up selling it locally.

I have the older versions and the 3d accelerated versions. Loved and still love em. X-wing Alliance was good also. I wish they would redo these for todays systems, that would be awesome.

I'm gonna echo all the comments. Tie Fighter was a ridiculously good game. The whole story, the gameplay, everything was just brought together so perfectly to create the pinnacle of gaming experiences.

I would LOVE to see an updated version released - hell even the original working on newer OS's would be great.

I have the X-Wing Alliance engine version of X-Wing, the collectors edition. Before that I had the floppy disc version that I ran on my 486 SX. I still remember how I was able to bring down star destroyers with my little X-Wing. After disabling the shields, I'd sit behind the thing almost directly under the engines and just keep firing at it. Its weapons couldn't reach me.

The "match speed" button alone was a vast help.

I loved that secret cloaked character. Now that I'm older, I realize how annoyed the mission officer must be at "the Halloween-costumed asshole who keeps harassing my pilots in the corridor"

God, the mission office had such a great voice. That was back when games were crafted well... Anyone remember the walkthrough books for Xwing and Tie Fighter? They were written like stories, and written remarkably well!

They actually did have stories (I know what you meant though) and were extensions of the in game plot.

I remember doing that Recon mission in the A-Wing on the orginal X-wing campaign. I think it was one of the first missions. I went all out and took on the whole fleet which consited of Freighters, Corvettes, Frigates and Star Destroyers! Frigates were always the worst to kill because they had no shield generators to blow up!

I would not be a PC Gamer without the influence of the early Star Wars Flight Sims. Not even Doom or Wolfenstein come close.

Yes, maybe the best game ever. I played it so much my parents almost disowned me. I beat it several times over, remember loving the the gunboat and the zillion weapons it had.

Loved X-Wing (this was on a Mac, so I had the X-Wing collectors edition and never played Tie-Fighter).
