Hence why you never flew it anywhere else in the entire Star Wars videogames, the darn thing was just unfair.

lol so true

who needs a star destroyer when you could have fleets of TIE Defenders?

of course that's the exact reason they give as to why the fighter never gained popularity - the emperor was too afraid of it falling into the wrong hands and it was eventually used as such in the game...

Oh the nostalgia. I still have all the CDs of Tie Fighter, XWing, XWing Alliance. I don't think I opted for XWing vs. Tie Fighter though...

Nostalgia...
Oh how I long for the days of hopping in my T/I and pwn noobs over on the Microsoft Game platform thingie for XvT.

Without the influence that those games gave me, I probably would be sleeping right now instead of trying ot figure out how to gear my Druid for Wrath.

I still remember trying over and over and over to complete all the secret mission objectives in one particular mission... I remember you're flying a T/I, and about to be betrayed. You start behind two other T/Is and immediately wax them. From there, you had to kill a bajillin frigates without any shields... rough, but I couldn't stop trying.

I can't hear a mission briefing without getting erect immediately.
I wonder what Lawrence Holland is up to these days? The guy's a genius.

I am seriously amazed that most of you guys dont know about X-Wing Alliance.
It has all of the previous games' spacecraft plus a couple new ones AND its 3D accelerated.

You can find it in one of the Star Wars Collector packs, along with 3 other crappy games but still......
If you are twitchin for a fix you should get it.

I was just looking at my CD collection the other day.
Tie Fighter Collector's Ed. X-Wing Collector's Ed. X-Wing vs Tie Fighter + Blance of Power.

The new dos box is awesome btw. I just need a joystick... I havent had one for YEARS.

If you were the company that made these, wouldn't you think that recreating these title games into a new engine would be the best way to make money? I certainly think so, I'm just shocked and amazed LucasArts hasn't done a replica of this with new graphics and new everything. This would be the most anticipated game since Half-Life 2...

AH! Tie Fighter! Loved that game.

Admittedly, looking at those videos, I was introduced to the Collector's Edition, not the DOS version.

except for when it ran out of missiles
When did it ever run out of missiles? It just had so many. And then there were those nice resupply ships..... As I recall, anyway.

Lucasarts, if you're listening, get this on GoG pronto!

LucasArts isn't the company it used to be. They used to make great games.

Is this just the old folks "the good ol days" syndrome, or are games really nowhere near as good as they used to be?

Back when they were limited by the hardware software designers actually had to put almost all their effort into making the games fun and enjoyable.
Nowadays they are just trying to stay in business and if the sales numbers are any indication, graphics are much better for profit than gameplay.
I have been playing tons of different games lately even though I am pleased by very few of them.
The sad truth is they are lacking in fun these days, and I'm not sure if the pendulum will ever swing the other way again.

Dude, if LucasArts released a version of Tie Fighter with updated graphics/physics/whatever, I'd pay $400 for it. Still in my opinion the single best flight sim, except maybe for the original Red Baron.

Gimme Tie Fighter, Red Baron, the old Microsoft Flightstick, and a case of beer, and I can survive for months.

Ditto. TIE Fighter is my all-time favorite video game. Hands down.
