I have an Evga 7800gs oc and am having some problems with it in my Abit AV8, but it works fine in my older Dell system.

There was a problem booting into windows, but I fixed that by marking IRQ 11 as reserved, but there is a slight flicker problem that happens for a second every time I load up a game. Odd thig is that this doens't happen in my older Dell. I'm 99% sure it is a result of a mobo chipset problem.

I was thinking about gettin a XFX or BFG model 7800 and hope the problem goes away or am I just wasting money?

If you have a VIA chipset mobo and a 7800gs please post your comments. Posting your brand helps too.

no way, its a 550w enermax

its the mobo, with a slight chance its just the thermal paste stuff on the card has to heat up to work, because its been working a lot better now that I;ve run it for a few hours.

Some 7800GS owners are having problems with their cards. Go over to eVGA's community board to read up on it.

yea, some guy said to just RMA it. Suggested it was an issue with the core or mem being over clocked

i'm running a bfg 7800 gs oc 460 core 1.4 mem
the graphics drivers were buggy for sure.
i tried a few versions but settled on the released ones from the nvidia site.
i also added the coolbits reg tweek from guru3d.
there's also a issue with the via cpu to agp driver is bad.
if you roll back to the xp cpu to agp drivers it works fine though.
mine was unstable untill i got all the driver issues cleaned up.
all the first 7800 gs shipped with buggy beta drivers i'm guessing.

It flickers for a second when I load up Divx files and crashes randomly when playing games for an hour. Do you have this problem too?

you'll have to give me a run down on what your running and what
your mb and graphics card are set at.
mine is running fine with games, movies and everything else i've thrown at it.
i'm running the desktop at 2048 x 1280 and i run ut2004 at 1920 x 1200 and it runs
better than the 850xt i took out of here.
the first week was hit n miss till i worked out all of the driver issues and bios settings.
every system will be a little different based on what combinations you throw at it.

I have the 506-ax and I have the blank screen/crash when play Dungens and Dragons Online for an hour or more.

What is even more annoying though is that the screens flickers 4 times or so over 1/2 a scond when loading up DIVX/mpeg4 files.

Should I RMA? or is this an easily fixable problem?

Specs
Win XP clean install sp1
Abit AV8-3rd eye
OCZ platinum 2-3-2-5 T1 1 gig sticks X2
Enermax 550w
2X WD raptor 73 gbs
Most recent Nvidia drivers.

initally when I installed it iw would crash often but after I ran it for a few hours the time between each crash seems less and less, so I would think that my card was NOT burned in.

My previous card was a BFG 6800 OC and worked fine

did you back off the via cpu to agp drivers and go back to the xp sp2 ones?
the via mb drivers have several bugs that have been reported.
mine didn't run stable till i cleaned up the drivers.
the ones that came on the disk were junk.

i have my cpu running at 2376 the mem is at 216 the agp is locked at 66mhz.
vcore is 1.5v ddrv is 2.65v sbv is 2.55v
agpv is 1.6v nbv is 1.55v htv is 1.25v
you might have yours undervolted
mine at 460 core and 1.4 mem should be pulling 9.375A at full load.
so the heavy action during games will pull your agp voltage down if you don't bump it up.

good article on modern sli power supply design's and where they're falling short.
seems that some are designed to share plains with the 5v and 12v rail so if your
5v rail doesn't have enough load on it it will reduce the max capacity of your 12v rail also.

i tried it with and without the via arena driver set, increasing the agp voltage does nothing

Don't think it is a psu problem, it powered my 6800 fine and the 7800 is supposed to be more power efficient.

I called tech support and the guy had no idea what the flickering problem is. he told me to just rma it.
