the one thing they didnt mention in the movie and we didnt find out untill quite recently (past 10 years ithink) is that the soviets had well over 40,000 Russian troops in Cuba wich the US didnt know about...
So had the US gone in and tried to invade Cuba, the would have had quite the surprise, and wouldnt have gone as well as they thought, in fact the plans that were drafted for the invasion of Cuba MIGHT have been insufficient and their first attacked repelled.
Had htey won and captured/killed 40 000 soviet troops, there would have been no turning back.
It was this incident that lead to the ability of the US prez and Russian leader to talk directly with each other via telephone. Had Kennedy been able to call up Krushchev and tell him outright what they know and whats gonna happen, this all may have been avoided, or at least not have been so "on the edge" of complete world wide annhiliation.
I think most people can take this movie at face value, there werent too many parts that were inaccurate. Im not sure if any low level reconsaince air craft got shot at though...
Too many people may think the events were "too scary to be true", but in reality it was just that close, the world did hang on the brink.
Good flick otherwise!
