I once shaved my head, but I'm that pale that I looked like a cancer patient.
Let it tan. Then you can be a cancer victim.

One might be able to get a Fast Feed for just under $50.
Otherwise, check out the Andis BGRC. It's $115-ish on Amazon. Freaking amazing clipper. Cuts closer and more thoroughly than the Fast Feed. Since I shave to #000 and am actually bald, it matters. If you want to save money, Fast Feed is perfectly fine.
There's also the Classic 76 for about $150, which cuts hair amazingly. Problem is that it's higher maintenance.
I actually don't like the headblade, I seemed to always cut myself when I used it rather than when I use my mach 3. I do LOVE their shave gel though.
OP here are my tips:
The first time it's going to take a lot of time, it's best to buzz your hair down as short as possible before going at it with a razor. I shave mine in the shower (I have a shower mirror which helps some, but you can't really see much of your head anyways so I do it mostly by feel). You'll probably have to reapply shaving gel/cream A LOT (I wouldn't be surprised if you reapplied 10 times in some spots). Making sure your head is well covered with shaving gel will greatly improve your chances of not cutting yourself. If you do get a nick on your head it doesn't really hurt, but it will bleed and bleed for quite a long time compared to cuts on other places of your body.
Don't use one of the 4 or 5 blade razors, they will clog very frequently - I use a Mach 3 and if it's been more than a week it clogs with every 1/2" swipe in the parts where my hair is thicker. Once you get used to shaving your head you can do it in under 5 minutes, it's best to do every other day but at a minimum once a week.
Yep, it comes down to Andis and Oster....from the research I've done over the years.
PS. Classic 76 is BIG and not very agile. It is probably the best clipper on the market but I would not recommend it for cutting your own hair. This is where size matters (as you have to hold the clipper in all kinds of ways hehe).
Quality Clipper + T trimmer and an extra mirror should do the trick for most.
Been shaving my dome for at least 10 years and you sick fucks who say use a headblade are insane. Maybe I'm not too coordinated, but I slashed my head on two different occasions, once across the back of my head and the other time on top. Looked like a slaughterhouse in my shower and on my towel. My wife was horrified. I use a Quattro razor for my face and dome and do them at the same time, in the shower. Don't need any mirror, i am able to go by feel because I've done it for so long.
OP, get it shaved down tight and get some sun on it to even it up. Then go full Kojak. It will look much better than the chemo patients you see walking around.
Peace
Lounatik
i currently use a panasonic electric razor (just shave my face and keep heading north ).

is the #000 on the Andis a closer shave? or is there a blade that goes even closer (i'm going for smooth, no stubble)?
I'm tired of haircuts. I want to shave my head but I'm worried about a couple things:
What about a tan line? I tan well so my face is tan. Will I have a weird hair tan line?
How hard is it to get all the hair?
Should I shave it down to a #2 guard for a month or so to let my head tan?
Anything else I should think of?
Yep, I put a 3/8" guard on, cut as much of it myself as I can, then let the wife do the trimming and the back of my neck.
When you first do it, you will have a noticeable color difference. You will be paler where the sun has never shown. Within 24-72 hours you will have stubble that will darken the same areas, and you will be rocking the Jason Statham look.
After a couple of weeks of shaving the skin will toughen up and darken naturally. Use tanning lotion/sunscreen if you want to accelerate the process.
Not hard at all.
Use clippers to get it down as far as possible. Then use a multi-blade razor and some quality shave butter or shave soap. Do NOT use shaving cream. Shaving cream will dry and numb your skin. You will get a much closer, smoother, and more comfortable shave with shaving soap or shaving butter.
Go slow and use your free hand to feel for stubble and the areas you have missed. When your whole head feels smooth you are done. When finished use lotion to moisturize and protect the skin. If you can take it, you can use some rubbing alcohol (or any aftershave lotion) to tone and tighten your scalp (be warned it will sting a LOT until your scalp is used to it).
You will get better results if you just shave it smooth and keep it that way. Use a tanning lotion if you want to get color faster.
If you decide to do it, be prepared for the shock. It takes a few days to get used to seeing (and feeling) yourself without hair. Once your brain gets used to it, it becomes natural. Make it a 30 day challenge (as recommended on the Sly Bald Guys Forum http://www.slybaldguys.com/smf/). Shave your head and keep it smooth for 30 days to give your brain time to adjust. If at the end of 30 days you decide shaved isn't right for you, you simply let your hair grow back.
I am currently using...
Proraso Shave Soap/Dollar Shave Club Shave Butter
Badger hair brush to build and apply the lather
Edwin Jagger Double Edge Safety Razor/Dollar Shave Club multi-blade
Derby/CVS double edge blades
I really want to try Proraso. Your setup is very similar to mine:
I'm currently using
Col Conk Bay Rum Glycerine shave soap
Merkur Model 180 safety razor
Feather blades
Van Der Hagen Badger brush
You don't tear your head up with the DE?
I'll be jumping into shaving my head in November. Figured I'd mess with people by going with the Heisenburg look. I'm just not liking that people are saying to stay away from the Headblade as I bought one.
