Fox news is the counter to the liberal media. If you add all the left bias of every network combined except put it to the right you get Fox News

NPR -1
ABC -2
CBS -2
CNN -3
MSNBC -8
Fox +16

Net of zero and there you have it Fair and Balanced Fox News style

To my knowledge Fox hasn't provided their definition of "Fair & Balanced", but then neither has anybody else, particularly those here complaining about it.

What's yours?

Fern

What's fun is that reality is neither fair nor balanced. So people wanting that from their news... obviously have a strained relationship with it.

Even if these made up numbers were accurate, it would still mean that any watcher of NPR, ABC, CBS or CNN is getting far more "fair and balanced" news than a watcher of Fox.

haha, that's a funny way to put it. To compensate and counterbalance for the media outlets that are progressive and logical, FOX News has to go FULL RETARD™ to keep equilibrium in the universe. Way to take one for the team FOX News!

Having guests from the other side appears doesn't mean they are being balanced. I'd also love to hear you justify your claim that they do this more than other networks do.

I watch them all. CNN is pretty good. I like their guy with the silver hair (I'm blanking on his name ATM)

They DO lead in having the most obviously biased hosts and commentators of any network I've ever seen.

No. You need to watch MSNBC. Lately Mathews has been unhinged and Shultz is batsh!t crazy.

Mine is "something not consistent with being 'obviously there to represent the conservative/Repub side of things'".

Why?

If MSNBC is there to present only one side why can't a channel who gives both sides be "Balanced"?

I have a feeling some of you want "Fair & Balanced" to mean they take no sides. IMO, that's obviously incorrect because Fox runs many Op/Ed type shows. You cannot have an Op/Ed without having an opinion/taking sides. You can, however, present both sides with guests representing both positions.

Edit: I forgot to mention that it didn't escape me that you didn't really put forth your definition.

I believe you. But I don't consider MSNBC to be a news source, just as I don't consider Fox to be a news source.

I don't see people on the left put forth MSNBC as being "fair and balanced". I do see people on the right saying this about Fox.

So your comparison is not persuasive.

If MSNBC is there to present only one side why can't a channel who gives both sides be "Balanced"?

Fox doesn't give "both sides". And everyone knows it -- including them.

"Fair and balanced" would, at a start mean these two things:

1. A specific effort to separate commentary from news reporting, and an effort to report the news objectively. FNC does not do this.

2. Op/Ed shows from both sides. FNC does not do this.

3. Fair treatment and equal airtime for guests with opposing viewpoints. FNC does not do this.

This is true, and I think that level of insulated 'group-think' lala-land has genuinely hurt real conservative thought and debate.

Fox has lately gone beyond the realm of merely partisan, and actively engaged in almost an alternative reality field. Then people are *shocked* when reality doesn't line up with what they have been led to believe. The poll situation, Rasmussen vs. Silver / etc, was a great example of this.

Go look it up, they have a crap load of people on there. They have a large staff of Dems, the 'traitor' Dick Morris is the only one that I'm aware who used to be a Dem and is now a Repub.

They bring on current Dem politicians. Heck, I've seen David Axelrod on there.

I thought I explained that pretty well already?

Your argument is one of quantity, quantity doesn't equal quality. Just because they have someone on the left doesn't mean they are giving factual analysis, in fact fox has people on the left so that they can beat up on their talking points and to assert their superiority over the "lefty".

Fox has only 2 news shows: Special Report with Bret Baer (sp?) and Shep Smith.

The only Op/Ed part of the Special Report is the guest panel at the end with both sides represented. Baer plays it pretty straight up as the host. Shep Smith show doesn't have any Op/Ed at all.

Unlike NBC, those two Fox anchors do not appear elsewhere giving opinions, nor do any of the straight-up journalists (e.g. Katherine Herridge) reporting on those 2 news shows. As for NBC, Andrea Mitchell has appeared over on MSNBC giving opinions etc., and that's crossing the line IMO.

So, yes, IMO Fox does separate out it's news from it's commentary.

What about my analysis is wrong?

You claimed MSNBC isn't a news station while FOX claims to be.
This is from MSNBC's fact sheet.

"The premier cable destination for in-depth analysis of daily headlines, insightful political commentary and informed perspectives – 24/7. MSNBC defines news for the next generation with world-class reporting and a full schedule of live news coverage, political analysis and award-winning documentary programming – 24 hours a day, seven days a week. MSNBC's home on the Internet is tv.msnbc.com."

emphasis mine.

Plus it wasn't that long ago when their station slogan was "America's Fastest Growing News Channel"

Okay, I stand corrected on the separation, if you are only going to consider those to be the news shows.

Now think about what that means. A 24 hour cable network only has two shows that try to be objective.

All of the other shows are opinion.

And all of those shows are heavily right-leaning.

Why are you wasting time quibbling over definitions of "fair and balanced" when you're smart enough to know that that clearly isn't it?

You bold the wrong section.

And they changed their slogan years ago, it used to be, "the place for politics", to "lean forward".

But a person only watches so much news. No one watches all the other channels at once.

Oh yeah, people should definitely watch more than one channel.

No, you can't watch them all simultaneously, but you can spread it around.

...Remember 6 months ago it was looking like the Dems would take the House and they didn't...
Anyone who understood the Republican gerrymandering in 2010 knew the GOP would own the House for at least the next three elections, possibly longer. Too many safe districts were created for either party to win a significant shift.

hanity does not admit he lean right? hahahahh

Sheppard smith is fair and balanced.

He's actually the only news journalist on Fox as far as I can tell. He even stopped reading the crap on the teleprompter just yesterday which was dripping with anti Obama stuff. He basically, said "Really you guys" and went further down to the news worthy text.

Your point? I clearly gave my opinion earlier.

As far as I'm concerned, anyone who views Fox or MSNBC as a news station is kidding themselves. The majority of programing on both stations is clearly opinion and commentary, not news. The only reason to watch either station is for entertainment value.

Not u, them. Everyone knows Fox and MSNBC lean right-left. Fox just makes a habit of outright lying or spreading malicious propoganda.

example....

Chris Mathews towards the end of election night said he was glad Sandy hit. Chris apologized the very next day.

Glen Beck said "Obama hates white people", nothing.
