Anyone still mud? A friend and I thought it might be fun to get a server going and we just opened and need some players (we have between 2 and 3 people on most days). Stop on by if you still love the old school way of MMOing. Ours is very D&D like. Orcs, Elves, Humans, Halflings, Dwarves, Drow, Deugers, to name a few with Pyromancers, Fighters, Wizards, Sorcerers, Shamans, Occultists, Priests, Clerics Bladesingers and more. Come join us in the father of all MMOs, the mud!

Connect with your favorite mud client or if you are new to mudding use putty just to check it out.

Long time ago I used to do a lot of coding on these things; curious which engine you used. Alas I avoid all mmo these days; very few are forgiving if you had not a lot of time to dedicate to them; still the mechanics of the various engines does drive some curiosity.

This one is a modified LP Discworld. Since we just came online, comparitively there are not very many powerful players, if you were to get involved with it, you would be right with most of us. The coding is very similar to C/C+/C++. We wouldnt be apposed to anyone showing interest in becoming a creator as well. I'd love to see some people stop by, they really are a lot of fun. Ive played HOURS of classic MMOs like Guild wars, and still find more DEPTH of play in a mud then I ever did in games like GW or WoW.

Haven't touched one since my AOL 3.0 days, but I remember it being quite fun actually.

Not sure though - the whole experience was kinda interesting when other players were about doing their thing. I remember this high level player kept killing town guards and butterflies, leaving all this ultra sweet loot that I kept picking up without any idea how much it was worth lol.

I liked Highlands II...I kept getting nerfed though because I figured out some cool tricks with the monk class and then once that happened I was fodder and it was a MUD where PKing was allowed and if you were looted you lost all your items, even bought items.

Lost the fun after that. Only place I was effective before nerf was the arena and it was and area where you couldn't loot.

My trick was I was able to "push" mobs and players, it was a non-aggressive skill. So thieves would backstab and run into a safe room and I'd just push them back out.

I also took down a ton of epic aggro mobs solo by pushing a ton of mobs into their 'room'.

We coded one in our data structures class in college, it was pretty fun writing and creating monster/character stat systems. I haven't played one in a while though, I might have to go check one out.

Those were epic growing up, alas I have no desire to find yet another time-sink that I can't commit to. Good luck though.

I pop into Aardwolf from time to time.... Only one I liked which still is really running. The other 2 I use to play/admin/code are pretty much dead and/or on life support (be lucky to see 2 people other then myself on when I pop in). Aardwolf still have a couple hundred people every time I log in.

Anybody ever play Medievia? I played it for a while, years ago - it was a lot of fun. I think it was one of the larger MUDs although I can't say for sure.

MUD - multi-user dungeon

think of them as the precursor to mmos. in all text.

I played one for quite some time. I loved it. If the population base still existed and I still had my notes, I'd probably still play. Used to do a lot of coding and zone development also.

Maybe I'm too young but I logged into this yesterday and couldn't figure out how to walk in a direction. I raged and shut it down. Maybe I should try it again.

Haha. Back in simple times.

MAJORMUD player here. Well...years ago. Those were the days...epic really. I kinda miss all the guys/girls I played with.

/mete Dark Phoenix (meteor swarm dark phoenix)

PVP back in that MUD was basically who could get the first cast/swing off.

Played Arctic for a long long time. Even got back into it for a few months earlier this year but I just had so many other games to play and things to do that I couldn't devout enough time. I wish more people still played, it's amazing how fun a game can be when the entire focus is on game-play and fun rather than shiny graphics.

MUDs were 75% of my social life back in college (91-95). I played on quite a few and was a coder one a couple. I stuck with them for several years after college, but eventually real life pulled me away. I always think back fondly to those times, of the people I was close "virtual" friends with and how it helped me get through that period of my life. I know I just don't have the time to get that involved anymore and it just wouldn't be the same now. I'll just stick with my memories!

I did a long time ago. I remembered having fun with the Hero Battles and all. I think I left a little bit after they introduced dragon dungeons and making weapons with dragon scales or something.

Just rolled mortals on the MUD I used to play (Apocalypse), we'll see how long this will keep my attention.

I played British Legends, the original MUD renamed, on Compuserve back in 92. My dad wasn't too happy about that because it was one of their premium games which meant it cost $2/hr to play. Racked up quite a bill one month, though I had heard of people racking up ludicrous amounts playing that game.

Then in 2000 I found it free on the internet. I "beat" it in a couple months and log in still every once in awhile. Unfortunately, the player population isn't what it used to be.

Way back in middle/high school I played a Dragonball MUD. It died though. If I could find a worthy replacement I'd probably idle all day while at work...
