I had more fun with opfor than with farcry.

I can't recall the black-ops (those were the ninjas, right?) doing anything so fascinating. They just popped out of a dark area, shot you a couple of times, and ran away. The marines in Far Cry weren't so accurate anyways, aside from the damned rocket snipers.

not just the babes, there were the regular black-ops personnel too. the way they used team-work to flush one out rocked.

I would have disagree with you on far cry. I would be quite a distance away, covered with foliage, but I would get hit instantly with accurate fire.

no, many flaws.

How about that stupid story?

or the crappy voice acting?

did you like the Huge plot holes?
[like running from ground zero]

or the No 'anytime save' ?

the Final Boss?

the ONLY thing that make it playable for me was the gameplay - control, movement and weapons are excellent . . . the enemy AI sure wasn't special and there were some annoying bugs . .

FC is way down my list form [for example] Chronicles of Riddick: EfBB . . . and i haven't even replayed it yet.

btw, HL2-Ep1 is $7.99 at CC.

Like how one would shoot you and as soon as you chase that ninja another from a different part of the level would get you? You're right about that. For Far Cry I never had much of a problem with the average grunt or trigen marine cheating. For the most part they were either easy to snipe or they were close anyways.

I liked Far Cry for its tropical island environments and neat choice of weapons. The so-called AI, gameplay and plot/acting are pretty piss-poor, annoying or both.

Right now I'm keeping Far Cry installed while waiting for the next instalment of the Matto single-player mod:

Playing through Far Cry again too. It's so much different on a 7900GT then my old 9800XT.

On the 7900GT I can run everything max with 4xAA and 16xAF, AND have some nice TRSS so all the foliage is nice and smooth. (not to mention Gamma AA).

It just looks like a different game with all the extra eye-candy. Not that it matters, but I can't wait for my second 7900GT from evga (RMA). I want my SLI back.

As a matter of fact I'm on my fourth run through.
The volcano area keeps killing me. I get bored and stop for a day at a time.

Very good game overall.
I wish John Carmack had played through it once or twice. It would have reminded him that video games are supposed to be FUN.

For those of you who claim to have lost your discs:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLi...&N=0&minPrice=&maxPrice=&Go.x=0&Go.y=0

My only probelm is I cant seem to find the DVD version anywhere.

EDIT: NEVERMIND!
Newegg does have it but you have to search for FarCry not Far Cry.
The DVD costs 40 bucks and the CD is 10.

Still one of the best FPS out there (mainly for outdoor environments) and it is 3 years old. If CRYSIS only brings a little upgrade from Farcry it will be incredible IMO.

Although it's not the best game, there isn't a single flaw with it

And this is a pretty accurate statement. While the AI isn't great, it really doesn't detract from the game that much.

The AI is innovative in the fact that the NPCs have vision and hearing etc... But, there are certainly some bugs with it.

One thing I seemed to dislike was that the game was very difficult even on easy. Yeah, I must really suck. But the AI did not seem to scale well with the difficulty setting.

My complaints with the game were the following.

1) AI was either too good, or too stupid. It needed to be more average, more of the time.

2) The objects in the game were real shiny, plasticy. This isn't the fault of the engine, but the skinners. I think they had terrible skinners and the game had a cartoon look as a result. It looks like they are improving this with Crysis.

Meh, storyline is overrated. Even graphics are more important to me than a good story and I think the original Doom looks great. The voice acting isn't great but many games have bad voice acting. Running from a nuclear explosion was stupid but a bit of cheese isn't game ruining. The lack of a normal save system really helped the game by keep you on your toes the whole time. The boss was insanely weak but the rest of the level's intensity with a billion rocket trigens balanced it all out.

I just bought a new computer, and this is the first game I've installed to test it out, and it's the first time I've ever played it. Upgrading from a 4 1/2 year old computer, I'm experiencing the joy and wonder everyone else did three years ago.

don't really have a reason to run through it again, replay value isn't that great - really wished it had co-op

I've had the game for a long time, and I'm still only about half way through the game. I kinda lost interest in it after about an hour of playing, so I only go back to it once in a while.

farcry-maps.com

^^ all the multiplayer and Simgleplayer maps/mods you could ever want including a de-bugged co-op.

You can save the game at any point by pressing the tilde, then type \savegame 1

forums.ubi.com has tons of good info for FarCry.

The Matto mods that were alluded to earlier are amazing, actually, they are better than the original game.

I'm sure that I will never uninstall this game.

LOL...I haven't played that game since it's release and I can still remember that last level as clear as day. I'll never forget the first time I hopped in the Jeep, started down the hill only to encounter all of those rocket hurling bastards. For a while there, I was questioning whether or not it was even possible to get through all of that mess. Man, those were fun times. I haven't enjoyed a game that much in a long time.

Given the surprising success of Far Cry, why did they not release a PC expansion? I was always hoping for a 2nd round of that game.

How about the "beautification" patches for HDR and such? Are those easy to get and install? No cracks needed or special command lines?

HDR comes with the latest patch 1.3.x.

r_hdrrendering is the console command.

It looks like I was in my ignorance when I made the second complaint. After installing Far Cry again last week I was introduced to the "Cold" render mode. Previously, I thought these modes just adjusted color, so I left it at default. I was wrong, these modes change the way the textures are rendered significantly. If anyone plays this game, I highly recomend "Cold" if you are looking for realism. If you like the vivid colors and cartoony plastic type look you can try Paradise or leave it at Default.

Just FYI

I personally prefer "improved" as "cold" washes out the colours too much and makes things look monotonous.

If you are like me and have an ATI card (x1xxx series) then you'll need the 1.4 beta patch to get HDR.

1.4 patch = HDR + AA Its supposed to be pretty buggy and there is no news on a final 1.4 but if you have an ATI card then this is your only choice to get the HDR stuff.

At the first few minutes of play, I thought the same. But, I must have adjusted to it, because I now consider it far superior. I didn't really notice what improved did... The changes were subtle (to me).

I love FarCry. I got tired of installing all the patches and the 64-bit content every time so I made a DVD with everything on it and some extras. Then I made a nice label and printed it on a photo paper cd cover. It looks really nice, really professional .

If anybody wants to try this then just ask me and i'll give you the uncompressed pic.

I've been playing the game again. It's only my 2nd time, but like the first time I played it, I'm playing on the "Realistic" difficulty mode.

It's pretty difficult, but I play all the games I own on the hardest difficulty mode... It presents more of a challenge to me.

Anyway, playing the game reminds me of why I thought it was much better than HL2: The graphics are better (IMO) the AI is better, and there is actually location based damage. I love the weapons, I like how you can 'lean' around corners, and I love how I've been playing the game for a solid 50 hours now, and I'm not done yet. (This might be attributed to the difficulty level.)

I think it's much more fun than HL2, and it takes longer to complete than any other FPS game that I can think of.
