My work rig has a 700 mHz Celeron in it. I'm pretty pleased with its performance in the Intel 815 chipset.

I?ve got 3 running at the moment, a 300a @ 450, 500 @ 560 and an 800 @ 896. Given the parts I had on hand, what was given to me or traded it was cheaper getting these 3 running than building one new Duron system and since the only thing they do is RC5 the 3 combined have a higher keyrate than what one Duron system would have.

I took out my K6-3 450 and put my 300A@450 back in.

Seems my i810 mobo has better chipset support (Intel) then my nice Epox (VIA) board. Too bad I had to give up 2 PCI slots, 2 ISA slots, and a dimm slot. Lucky it has onboard audio!!

Its probably time to upgrade, but this baby works great for me.

Its kinda funny, I just built a NICE duron system for a friend for just over $400. My 2 SCSI drives alone cost more then that.

Everyone around her is Mhz Happy. Stop wasting your CPU cycles and money, and gets something that really improves performance, SCSI hard disks. Its not very likely too many of you guys are CPU bound anymore.

Admittingly, its not as fast at the 1ghz some of my clients use, but its more then fast enough.

my 2 cents

566/850 althought 1.33 GHZ is in the mail but im sure ill keep this one running too !! Just have to have some more power plus the price is so right with that dirt cheap DDR at Crucial !! The only reason im really upgradeing is that my motherboard dose not support 4x agp and my new Gforce pro does !!

I have four of them in my house still running strong. Two 300a's at 450 and two 533's at 800. I am considering an upgrade to Athlon 1.33 but the 533 at 800 is still getting the job done pretty darn well.

I just bought one as a file server. Even though a P166 would've been sufficient, I couldn't find anything cheaper than the celeron rig I bought. I was thinking of going with the Duron, but I wasn't sure if the KM133 chipset was compatible with Linux and since my mATX case only has a 145 Watt PSU, I was afraid of its power usage.

celerons are still plenty alive, I have 2 celeron 466@525 servers for CS and Q3, one 633@950 for CS/Q3, a 533 for Web/FTP, another 400@500 I haven't found a use for yet, and a dual 366@550 soon. Actually, not that I think about it, all my servers are celeron except for one (dual ppro), and they handle the task very well.

I just bought a Celeron system for $125 from Computer Geeks a few weeks ago. As a matter of fact, that's what I'm typing this message on right now. It's my first experience with a Celeron and it's not that bad.

I just replaced a 466 with a brand new 800 in my system. I know that I can get better $/performance numbers with AMD, but this way I don't have to replace Mobo, SDRAM, etc.

BTW, if anyone wants my 466, it's on Ebay right now.

"Anyone still use Celerons?"

FORK YEAH! That's all I use! 400@500 in an Aopen AXBC, 533@800 in an ASUS P3BF and 600@900 in an ASUS CUSL2.

"...anybody still buying celeron?"

FORK YEAH! Most of my family is running BX mobos. I'd suggest they grab a CII to hold them over for another couple years. Same with me. If I felt the urge to bump that 400MHz Celery up a notch, I'd slap a $40.00 600MHz in there and run it at 900MHz.

Intel ain't made much money off ole' Pikachu!
