I was thinking of perhaps running a DC program or two on my WHS, after all it is going to have a Q6600 in it.

Then I got to thinking, I wonder at what priority level does the OS'es disk-reorganization task run it? If I run DC on it, and they both compete for CPU time, will DC slow down disk re-org even moreso than the supposedly slow process it already is?

Has anyone done this? Have you noticed disk re-org (rebalancing) taking even longer since starting DC on WHS?

I tried running F@H on WHS. I said tried because just to much resources was being used. Movies would bog down when streaming from it. Utorrent would get out of memory errors (has 4 gigs). etc. Even remote desktop is dogged down.

I appreciate you posting this topic, VirtualLarry! I had to google WHS. I didn't even know what a Windows Home Server is. I could make use of something like this. I have thousands of digital pictures (and a few ripped copies of DVD's also)... and lots of mp3 files! This is definitely something that I'll consider down the road.

I don't stream from my WHS except to my other home computers, but is the first time I can honestly claim that my computers are backed up. That's my favorite feature.

I've used that Backup feature to easily rebuild my systems. Once to replace a dead C: drive and twice to upgrade from a 250GB drive to a 1TB drive.

But, as far as crunching goes, I didn't put a great processor on it. Just a single core Intel processor. All the other multi-core Phenoms on the network make fun of it and call it names.

Windows Home Server is a subset of Windows Server 2003, SP2.

Microsoft took off many things they didn't thing a home server would need but added or tweaked other features. As I said earlier, the online backup feature has been my favorite part, but it does a good job of keeping your audio and video files in a central location. It also lets me log in from anywhere and upload or download files and feel secure about it.

I have a WHS box, but the processor in it is very very low-end, so I haven't attempted crunching on it. I should be building a new rig shortly, and I will be putting a Q9550 in the WHS box, so I will probably start crunching then.

I have a WHS with an Athlon dual core processor. I run 2 instances of folding one for each core. I was going to put the windows multi core client on it until I read that you must log in an a user with administrator privileges. Since I don't log in to the server very often I figured I would be better off just adding 2 of the regular clients to the services.

It was nice about a month ago one of the clients was crunching something that was turning in over a thousand points every couple of days. Here in recent weeks both clients have been running smaller units and only turning in about a hundred points each usually twice a day. I suppose I should set one core to download large or scientific files.

I haven't done any streaming from the whs so no idea if it is bogging it down. I use it mainly for the backup. I have downloaded the tivo add in but have failed to get it to work with my tivo as of yet.

Larry I haven't paid any attention to disk reorganization is there a log that has this info? Looks like you are back with a vengence. I passed you a couple of months ago now it looks like you will pass me in 1.6 months. jtmiller in stats.

Sounds like someone needs to make an add in for whs for the multi client.
