anyone tried Metro PCS? (the one with no contract for $35 / month?)

Option #1: Metro PCS for $35 / month. The only catch I figure is there crappy phone purchase, which I am not sure whether it is mandatory or not.

Option #2: Prepaid Card thru ATT or T-mobile. Expensive, but that's the only way I've done before and know it will be reliable.

BUT, here's the kicker, I already have a T-mobile phone already. It will now come down to usage. if my cousin will be using a lot of minutes, then the Walmart Net10 deal is better even I suck it up and pay 30 bucks for a crappy phone. If less, I will just pay more for the T-mobile deal. (it's $10 for 30 mins, so, $.333 / min, 3.33 times the price of walmarts)

using Variable / Fixed Cost equation, my cousin will have to use about 130 minutes of airtime to call it even. ;p

Depends on how much talk time you think you'll use. Metro is great because it's unlimited talk time but reception is pretty spotty (at least it is in the S.F. Bay area). If you go with pre-paid service I'd recommend t-mobile's pay as you go because if you purchase 100 dollars worth of talk time it's a flat .10 cents a minute and your minutes don't expire for 1 year. Also T-mobile does not charge the 1 dollar per day access fee that AT&T charges.

I know a few people who use Metro. Service seems to be ok, but the value depends on what package you get/use. The extras (pics, testing, etc) all really add to the cost of the basic plan, Plus, there's NO out-of-area roaming...at all.
My daughter had Metro for quite a while. She went to Las Vegas last summer and had no cell phone while she was there. No Metro service, no roaming.
IMO just about any other option would be preferrable .
