Anyone here try one of DD's new imitation cronuts?

The store I stop at in the morning was advertising them this morning so I got one instead of my usual bagel. I was not blown away it tasted like their glazed donuts, maybe a slight difference in texture. If I want something sweet in the morning from there I would probably buy their French cruller instead.

Not appealing to me, too expensive. I'm more of a old fashioned or conventional donut fan. Too many better small privately owned donut places around here to eat at some chain unless you are stuck in the location.

Was going to try one but then I saw the price. Snagged a jelly donut instead.

I'd be interested to hear how it stacks up against the real deal. Anyone here have an official Cronut from that place in NYC? From what I read, there's a trick to cooking them that's a bit of a trade secret. It's not just a croissant that's been glazed. The place in NYC actually uses a special blend of croissant dough and deep fries it and then glazes or frosts a cronut.

I had the DD last night. Bought 4 plus 2 pumpkin and got a seventh free. Total was just under 6 bucks.

Opinion on DD cronut. Its very good if you are a fan of glazed donuts. It ultimately tastes like a great glazed donut.

I work about 2 blocks from that stupid hipster guy on spring street who "created" the cronut. Its still has a long ass line out front. I sent one of my minions there last week to snag one. She did, we cut it into 6 pieces and I passed it to a few co-workers. It was merely ok. Definitely NOT work 5 bucks and SURE AS HELL AINT WORTH A 2 HOUR wait in line. Sorry hipsters. Ya'll are idiots for even waiting longer than 10 mins for a cronut.

do they sell a non-glazed version? The glazing would make them too sweet for my taste and just like a glazed donut.

I don't think so. I like it as is, maybe not worth the price but being I got 4 of em plus 3 other for less than 6 bucks I think its a good deal.

DD was better back when they actually baked fresh donuts every hour.

Now they are trucked in in the morning, and stale most of the day.

They went from being a bakery with delicious food to just being a place that sells baked goods made somewhere else.

That said, their coffee is still good.. but their donuts have been a HUGE disappointment for the last 5 or so years ...

They were a lot better when they actually fried their donuts. Now the bake them which changed the consistency too much.

you hit the nail on the head...but about 30 years too late. i remember before they were franchising like crazy and still fighting the local shops. every baker was a graduate of dunkin donuts university (yes, that was a real thing), although the coffee was only marginally better than the rubbish people were used to back then.

once mister coffee went down, dunkin donuts started spreading like cancer. it was noticeable how the quality at every location went down as they opened more stores. today, the food is bad, the coffee intolerable and the prices are stratospheric.

If I want a fancy croissant, I'll go to the french bakery in the town over and get a chocolate or almond croissant. If I want a good doughnut, I'll go to local place in town or the shipleys in the town over.

I agree with the anti DD sentiment. They're the subway of donut shops

That's like asking how Burger King compares to Peter Luger's.

I've never had a Cronut, but everyone here who isn't a tourist steers clear of chain restaurants for good reason.

They are always sold out by the time I get my local Dunkin Donuts.

That said, I pass about eight of them on the way to work, so I'm sure that at least one of them will have one if I really wanted to try one

OK, I finally got a hold of one. It's decent, but not worth the $2.50 they charged me for it.

Yes, a friggin fancy donut costs $2.50 here. Please remind me how much I'm getting ripped off here in Connecticut
