Set up the RS480M2 board and installed Win2K SP4 from a slipstreamed CD onto a Seagate 80GB SATA drive (ST380817AS).

No problems with install, however, the drive is not seen as a SATA drive by HD Tune.

It shows it as using the UDMA Mode 5 (ATA 100) interface and with transfer rates of 1.2 MB/sec.

The BIOS SATA setting show IDE - choices being 'Disabled/IDE/SATA-RAID.

Can I get this drive to be recognized as SATA without using the SATA-RAID driver?

i ran in 2k, with IDE like that. with a sata raptor. it runs fast though, not 1.2 MB/s

cool and quiet gave me lots of problems in 2k though. xp pro works great. heatsink , any athlon one will work if its just a normal one. i'm using a $5 coolermaster from svc.com works great.

Does the onboard video run half-life 2 well? Is it better to upgrade to a x300 se? or is it equivalent to that?

I'll let you know tomorrow as I will get my new mobo and a64 3000+ Earlier in the post someone said that they had played HL 2 and could do fine on medium settings. I'm guessing its better than my athlon xp 2100+ and Ti4200 I've got now. Can't Wait!!!

upgrading to an x300se would be awaste of money. the onboard video is probably 85% as fast.

you can play hl2 at around 45fps at 800x600 medium from what i've seen online. world of warcraft runs fine at 1024x768 as well.

Is that better than getting a setup with agp and ti4200?

I hate to nag, bug since I really want to buy the MSI RS480M2-IL, I might as well put a link to this thread, in which I ask owners of this board to help find out it if's compatible with BeOS (yes, this is the only potential deal breaker for me).

Thanks in advance,

Oren

I thought about getting this board, but I really need some OC features.

It is a shame to run my 3200+ at stock speeds...

Could someone tell me if the North Bridge (ATI - the one next to the CPU) has a fan or is it passively cooled with a Heat Sink?
The Pictures at NewEgg show what appears to be a Heat Sink...
but in Anand review pictures (a preview Mobo version without a doubt - dimms are all black- no Blue), one can see a fan on the North Bridge!

Thanks!

Just a question for you people with this board...can anybody compare it with the FoxConn NF4K8MC-RS or the FoxConn NF4K8MC-ERS? I need a new board, and this one's in the line up...Just need to know...

Someone commented that the board is microatx and therefore not suitable for OC and Gigabit Lan. I have to disagree. Generally, SFF and MicroAtx users can be just as hardcore as the full-size users. They want the maximum performance that full-size users want, but they just want it in a smaller package.

Ironically, I think Athlon 64 microatx board are behind the curve of the Intel cpu boards. There are Intel boards with Gigabit Lan and OC features in Microatx format.

As for differences between this and the Foxconn MicroAtx. The Foxconn has one additional PCI-e slot in place of MSI's PCI slot. The MSI has built in SPDIF and has onboard graphics where Foxconn requires a video card. Not sure if Nforce4 is faster than ATI Express chipset. I think both are pretty close in performance.

I had this Mobo for 4-5 days and everything was working fine until today 4/11/2005- I noticed the CPU temp is high 54C. Usually it is around 39c-44c.

So I looked inside the case and discovered the CPU fan is not working (Winchester 3000+- 939-Retail with fan).
I rebooted and the fan started working again until the boot is completed ... then it stopped.
Did reboot again and it did the same thing ...Fan working during boot then stops when completed booting.
Tried it 3 more times with the same results!
Witthout the fan working Temp is 55c + so far (running for 1 hour with case side up and open)
Any idea what is causing this: MOBO-CPU-Fan? I need to know before I call NewEgg because they have a 7 day policy on CPU RMA.

Please HELP if you can!
