Anyone upgrade from Win 2000 to Win 7?

I have a backup computer running win 2000. I want to upgrade it using win 7 home premium upgrade version. Have googled this and not much information regarding the issue. Anyone know for sure if this can be done..I am aware I would need to clean install like needed with XP. But can clean install work with 2000...I don't remember activating 2000 so if 7 looks for an activated product how will it handle 2000? Thanks all.

I think you need to by a full version. Only XP and Vista qualify for upgrade licenses.

Windows 2000 doesn't qualify for a Windows 7 Upgrade license. I' sure.

Yes, but there?s a catch. Only Windows Vista users will be able to do an in-place upgrade. This means that Windows XP or 2000 users will be forced to do a clean install. Maximum PC readers are generally technical enough to know that this is a good idea anyway, but if your planning on upgrading PCs for friends and family, bring a USB hard drive and be prepared to stay awhile.

Well I confirmed that this works...upgrading win 2000 to Win 7 32 bit worked without a hitch. Of course had to boot from dvd and it installed. Now..I first tried to upgrade to win 7 64 bit and had real problems. It finished install but when I rebooted my video card was not recognized (tried pcie ati x850xt and tried onboard ati 1250 video) Kept coming back saying out of frequency range. Spent hours trying to resolve with suggestions from various posts but couldn't get it working. So, I formatted and reinstalled everything using 32 bit. Oh well it is a backup system although I do use it as an htpc connected to my 37inch lcd in the family room and with netflix free online "watch instantly" movies it is sweet......
