Our marketing people like the 7500 series because they do 11x17, but I personally hate them. Supporting them and their scanners is never an easy task. They SCSI for one, the scanning software is crap, and their support leaves something to be desired. I much more prefer my HP ScanJet than anything Microtek makes.

I had a Microtek scanner since Thanksgiving 1999... I paid $15 for it @ BestBuy, and although it's definitely a simple scanner, it's done it's job well, and never had a problem with it.

Thank for the input. Pros and cons to everything I guess. One thing that caught my eye was the software that came bundled with the Microtek, it?s a pretty healthy package. If there are no quality issues I think I will give the Microtek a try.

Microtek seems to be good. I bought a microtek v6upl a year ago or so. Never had a problem it just worked. I wanted that version cause of the ability to do legal size scans which at the time I needed. Now I dont even need that feature. Still a great scanner though. Havent heard about the 5900s or any issues.

I bought the MicroTek 6800 a couple of months ago and LOVE IT!

The software (ScanWizard 5.821) is a tad unstable. It crashes every half hour or so, but restarts easily. It's a bit poorly conceived for mass scans, forcing you to go to the mouse where hot keys would be more convenient, but the feature set is GREAT.

The scanner itself is fantastic. I'm nearly 1600 scans into a project with a long way to go, and couldn't imagine doing this on my old scanner.

This is my second MicroTek. The first one's still alive and kicking - I simply needed more speed and features.

Your mileage may vary....

I've had a Microtek Scanmaker E6 for years and it's never let me down. The drivers/card were always a bit difficult to set up, but it always scanned fine. You can scan in windows "Imaging" program, or Photoshop, or anything...so whatever software it has is probably irrelevant.

I've got the 5700, on the firewire bus, and I love it. It was an upgrade from an older (a lot older) microtek that ran off a scsi controller card, and the increased scanning speed with the new one is awesome. Never had any problems with it. ScanWiz had some minor glitches, but I upgraded to the new version (free dl on their web site) and all seems to be fixed.

I have had a Microtek X6 USB scanner for about 4yrs now. Never a problem. Its time for an upgrade but only due to dated technology. Still works like a charm.

Whatever you do, stay AWAY from UMax scanners. If you can believe this, they actually charge owners for software updates! You actually have to purchase an update CD from them. It's not available as a download. Talk about lame! It's too bad because I was happy with my previous UMax scanners. Good, solid hardware. Oh well, once my 2100U dies it will be the last UMax product I ever buy.

I have had many microtek scanners over the years. First I had the E3 and E6 about 6 years ago. Then about 3.5 years ago I got the slim C6 USB. They are all good scanners.
