Anyone use non-Canon brand ink in Canon Printers?

Inkjet ink is water based, not petroleum based. So it shouldn't go up much. Besides, ink is a very small part of the price of a cartridge.

If you want the best aftermarket cartidges call this number and ask for the carts with the Scensient-Formulabs ink'. For the best price.

Well, i purchased some Swiftink.

I have a question about Canon, the monitor says the ink is low, some cartridges show a tiny bit of ink left in the tank, but others dont have any ink in the tank. Does the monitor tell you when its completely dry and you should replace? Im just curious how much usable ink is in the sponge/cotton side.

Any suggestions?

BCI-3e black is 20 ml
BCI-6 is 12 ml

There will still be some ink left in the cart when the software notifies you as low.
How much further you can use the cart depends on several things.

You shouldn't be paying over $2-$2.50 for a cart for the canon.

I use Print-Rite ink compatible cartridges with my Canon i865,never had any problems and I have been using them for years now,money I have saved not buying Canon ink cartridges could buy me a few new Canon printers now.

Btw Jet-Tec compatible ink cartridges are also very good.

Swiftink lowered their prices.. Their canon carts's are quite good. I ditched Ink4Art.

I personally just use official canon ink. Call me crazy, but my i960 is ONLY for photo printing, we have a laser and a FAR lexmark for all other printing we do. I guess I prefer knowing I get high quality ink for my photos.

Thats not saying I spend alot, I bought an entire set of replacement carts for ~$40 (6 tanks) so in my book thats not bad, especially since the original tanks are still going strong after 12 8.5x11 and 50+ 4x6 photo prints. I also only use the official paper, can't bet $20 for 240 sheets of 4x6 canon photo paper plus glossy!

I do, however, have an iterest in what is the best "other" ink as my bro loves his new Pixima3000 to death, I am afraid he is gonna run out of ink real fast here.

The "ink low" warning comes from an optical sensor, which is sending light through the little plastic prism on the bottom of the cartrdige, in the rear section where the ink is flowing free. At the time when that runs low or empty, the other half (the sponge part) still has some ink in.

Never let the ink run ACTUALLY dry, and never leave the printer w/o an ink tank after you've first used it. Doing either will promote jet clogging, which is Not Good.
