Is that the stuff that causes liver disease?

The way I see it, if they have to advertise on late night TV it can't be good. Don't take chances with your health

The fact is, that is nothing that will definately get rid of it. Maybe you'll grow out of it like I did, maybe you'll find a product that effectively combats whatever happens to be the particular source of your acne, who knows. Just try different things and see what works out the best for you.

Eh. Use anything cheap with 10% benzoyl peroxide. Any pharmacy carries it.

If you have a serious problem go see a dermatologist.

me = talking from experience!

Sunshine and washing my face regularly eradicated all traces of acne from my face. There wasent much left anyways but getting a tan this summer finished what was left.

Benzoyl peroxide:
#1: Will probably bleach any facial hair (or any other hair) it gets on
#2: Is very bad for your skin if you go out in the sun

IMO, any product with 2% Salycylic Acid is all you need, for example, Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash. Anything more and you should probably ask a dermatologist.

Definitely worked for me until I grew out of the acne, around 18. You do, though, have to use all three stages, even though it gets to be a pain. Just two or one will not give the same benefit at all.

Be careful with it, though - buy white pillowcovers and don't wear nonwhite collared shirts. Just when you think it can't possibly contact there, it will, and you will have bleach spots.

If that fails, Accutane will do the job, but it is nasty stuff:
"Some patients who took isotretinoin have developed depression or psychosis (loss of contact with reality), have become violent, have thought about killing or hurting themselves, and have tried or succeeded in doing so. You or your family should call your doctor right away if you experience any of the following symptoms: anxiety,sadness, crying spells, loss of interest in activities you used to enjoy, poor performance at school or work, sleeping more than usual, difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep, irritability, anger, aggression, changes in appetite or weight, difficulty concentrating, withdrawing from friends or family, lack of energy, feelings of worthlessness or guilt, thinking about killing or hurting yourself, acting on dangerous thoughts, or hallucinations (seeing or hearing things that do not exist)."

Bezoyl peroxide has never bleached anything on me and salycylic acid just does not work for me.
I've tried everything out there (pretty much) including proactive- there is nothing special about it- it's basically benzoyl peroxide 2.5% (or around that) and some other lotions for basic skin health.

so ya, basically it varies from person to person what works for THEIR skin. Everyone thinks they know what works the best, but it depends on the person.

I figured if someone is willing to purchase Proactive they're having a rather serious breakout. I never found any of those pads with salycylic acid to do much for me.

The Benzoyl Peroxide stuff was recommended by my dermatologist, but you have to use it sparingly, maybe 5% instead of 10%, (as with anything of its type), and can work well. If you are having a bad break-out and are taking Tetracycline or something like that you're not going to be out in the sun anyways.

Still, might be worth a visit or two to the dermatologist to see what's up. Could be more than just a normal "breakout."

Yeah the pads do suck, which is why I mentioned Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash. When the normal washes don't work for me I'll grab some acne scrub (Clearasil for Men, 2% Salycylic Acid, but as a scrub rather than soap) or salycylic acid spot treatment (Clean & Clear or Neutrogena); but never benzoyl peroxide, I'm afraid I'll ruin my sheets or a towel or clothes or something.

Oh lord, I am in my late 30s now, and back when I was in my teens the dermatologists were still sticking me under the UV lamps. They've come so far. Bastards.

I was also among one of the first teens in the '80s to take that perscription acne med...I can't remember the name, it works really well for moderate to severe acne but pregnant women can't take it. Now they don't perscribe for acne so much anymore because they've also found it has a high suicide/depression rate in teens? Anyone?

sunshine = scars.. talk to any dermotologist and they will tell you to avoid the sun not only because it dries your skin even more while you're under treatnment, but because it will cause acne to leave more scars...

Experience != knowledge.

No, I mentioned that. It's a cream.

For me, I don't use those zit creams as much I used to. I think it overdried my skin and made me break out even more. Now, I just wash my face in the morning and at night before sleep and it seems to keep things under control.
