I'm currently using a synthetic blend but I'm thinking about switching over to mobil 1 supersyn. Any pro's and cons to syn besides being a bit more expensive?

I use Mobile 1 synthetic on me car..

If you have a new car.. then I suggest synthetic, if not.. blend should be good..

There aren't really any cons besides the price. I switched over at 67k miles, and haven't had a problem since

Car manual says use oil with the oil seal of approval.

My cheap-o brand oil from Autozone and Wal-Mart have that seal of approval on them.

how often do u change your oil? my manufacturer recommends every 5000 miles, but with syn i hear you can get by with 10000 miles

yes, i'm sure it'll suffice but cheaper oil means less protection and frequent oil changes.

Price is the only down side to syn oil, but of course if you are going to spend 20K to 50K on a car then why not spend the extra on taking care of it.

Usually about 6k, just because nearly 100% of that driving I do in my car is city driving. If I did highway driving, I'd go a little higher.

I don't know baout going until 10k, though. I'd feel safer changing it earlier.

I have had nothing but good results from Mobile 1 for all my stuff so far. My 185K mile 92 Accord runs much smoother. It works well in my air-cooled bug kit car. It even helped my old lawn mower run cooler this last summer. Great stuff.

Mobil 1 Synth 0W-40 (the only Mobil 1 that is the older completely tru synthetic formula, dig around to find more info on that.) every 6k with a filter change + topoff every 3k.

For the most part, don't believe what you read here or any other forum on motor oil and what to use, when to switch, etc..

Btw, WalMart has 5 quarts of Mobil1 SuperSyn 5W-30 for $19.

I use the cheapest full synth I can find, with a Motorcraft filter. I figure it's gotta be better than the best petroleum oil. I'll change it twice per year, which will end up at about 3,000 miles for each change. I'm more concerned about getting the filter out of there, than the old oil. AutoZone's budget full synth is $3.00 per quart when you buy 12.

I use mobil1 10w30 in my car.
i'm not changing any-time soon

I hear amsoil is good.. but too expensive for me, and one of it's benefits is that you can go longer on an oil change, well i dont quite know if i could trust it.. i'd rather change my oil every 5k.

hope you have the long-term used oil analysis to back that up.

I used Mobil1 in my motorcycle and also put it in my parents Z28. I changed their oil every 3K, but now on Mobil1 its every 5000 miles.

And of course DON'T EVER USE FRAM FILTERS.

AFAIK there are no guidlines that say a blend can't be 1% syn; ie, I think it's a waste of money.

I have been putting mobil 1 full syn in the maxima. I'm going to change it with an oem nissan filter every 6k miles or so. I just checked it at 4k and the damn stuff was still amber colored (color is not a great oil test, but if it's still amber that's gotta be worth something!). Manual says I can change regular oil as infrequently as 7500 with a non-synthetic, but I do some city driving, and 6k seems a good number to me

The sentra gets valvoline maxlife dino oil in a hope that the seal-expanding chemicals in that stuff will slow the leak the car suffers from.

"And of course DON'T EVER USE FRAM FILTERS."

Before I ever even got this far in the thread, I was saying to myself, "I should post here about not using Fram filters..." Looks like you beat me to it
