My XP 1900+ can almost reach 1800mhz, currently using an SK-6 with a 60mm Delta. Was thinking about getting a new heatsink, with an 80mm fan to see if I can make it.

Now the SLK800 looks to be gigantic. pic. What if this heatsink was paired with the Vantec Tornado? The tornado has me scared, but I will at least be putting an 80mm delta on it. I've got 5 noisy 80mm case fans and SCSI drives already, so more noise won't really be noticed.

I was mainly curious as to how the SLK800 performed compared to the AX-7, the heatsink I had my eye on before this came out. If I buy this thing with the tornado fan and still can't hit 1800 mhz I'll go insane, so I hope it works.

edit: just my luck HardOCP has a review of this heatsink, with the 80mm tornado beast fan. Under their tests it beat the Alpha 8045 and the Swiftech MC462. I guess the only question now is if I can deal with the noise.

Two reivews are out... HardOCP and SystemCooling. I emailed Kyle @ HardOCP to see if they used slower speeds fans, he said yes, and the results scaled the same. But they didn't have time to retest twice and get the review out in a reasonable period of time. A tornado migth help you hit a bit higher.

The thing to remember is that the Palomino core topped out @ 2100 speeds. I don't think you'll be able to get it much higher without some kind of more extreme cooling (Pelt/decent H20), unless you've got a sweet chip.

As to the size, it's smaller than a 8045 and MCX462 and weights 30-50 grams less. The other nice thing is that it's shaped like a engine block (v shaped) so it's narrow @ the base and gets wider, won't run into clearance issues with capacitors around the socket.

Couple of comments on the forum, so do a search and you also might want to head to the hardfourms. Two or three guys have been very happy with the results when paired with a 53CFM/39DBA Mechatronics fan.

2Cooltek has them for $43 vs $59 @ coolerguys or $50 @ heatsinkfactory. LOL nm, just noticed... Ian @ 2cool just bumped the price up by $5. I got mine last night for $43.

I have a Pal 8045 and MCX462... looking forward to this HS because I'm tired of pulling my motherboard off the tray every time I want to mess with my CPU.
