With a 1 year on and a 2 year old son I don't think I am gonna bother with a LCD TV anytime soon. I don't want to hang it on the wall. My kids though love to throw stuff at the TV and smack it. I don't think I can handle them doing that to a $700+ TV(had my eye on a 32").

Anyway I was wondering whats a good PC monitor to hook a 360 to? I am gonna get one soon. I currently have a 19" Widescreen but would like something a bit bigger but wanting to keep it in the $300 range if possible.

If you can, try and get a used/refurbished HP L2335 or Dell 2405 monitor. Either one will give you a 1080p picture without breaking the bank.

If you prefer something newer and slightly cheaper, I recommend Dell's E228WFP. 22 inches of widescreen goodness for under $300 at ebay.

I have my 360 hooked up to my 2405fpw. Hooks directly into the component hd inputs and works flawlessly.

I thought about it, but I don't want my image stretched, being that all PC monitors are 16:10 in comparison to 16:9.

Well I have a one year old and two year old. I've never seen a kid in my life that didn't want to touch the TV or finger the buttons on the front. Your kid must just not have the interest for some reason. I do somewhat discipline my kids but that can only go so far at their age.

Besides maybe it has something to do with both of them being boys. My sister has 3 girls that I've seen grow up and I seldom seen them touch her TV(if ever). Maybe its just a boy thing.

the image would actually be compressed, not stretched.. a non-widescreen monitor is typically 4:3 (the traditional tv screen aspect ratio), not 16:10. hence, resolutions that are multiples of that ratio (i.e., 640x480, 800x600, 1280x960, etc...).

Personally, I found most PC monitors too small. I used to use a 19" LCD with my XBOX 360 (used a KVM to switch between, actually not too bad since I sat at my PC desk to do this!) The problem is... when I switched to the 19" as a dedicated monitor... it sucked. Simply too small for sitting further away. This is where a larger HDTV comes into play.

So, in other words, if you can sit close naturally (sitting unnaturally close is... well unnatural), then a smaller monitor can work well, but in an unnatural manner, you'd want a bigger TV to let you sit in a more natural/comfortable spot.

Whatever you do end up doing, 16x10 TVs/monitors are annoying for consoles...they cut off the sides of the image. Bleh.

I've been using my Dell 2007wfp with my 360. It works very well. I set it to the closest aspect ratio to a 16:10 resolution and from there I can either set it to keep the aspect ratio as it is (with less than a quarter of an inch of black bars on the top and bottom) or stretch the image very slightly. I have found it impossible to notice the slight stretching. The only thing negative is that I need a bigger monitor!!

i'm interested to know about this, too.

My guess is they run the audio inputs into their speaker setup whether its a 5.1 or better receiver or use a RCA to headphone adapter and run it into their PC audio input. There are several different ways of getting audio.

I bought a Gateway 24" LCD, plan to get an Xbox360 soon, I understand it's 16:10 and Xbox360 is 16:9, but the screen supports 1:1 doesn't that mean I'll get a full image, with just a bit of bars on both sides? My first experience with this LCD today wasn't the best, I tossed in a wide screen DVD (Oceans 11) and the bars on the top and bottom were damn huge. Heard good things about this monitor with an Xbox360 though, same with the Westinghouse 22" (using the VGA)

I'm curious how having 1:1 effects things, I'm not up on HD and this if my first wide screen monitor so it's all pretty new to me.

I run my 360 thru my Samsung 215TW -- using the analog input. My PC uses the DVI.

For our LCD TV, I had Tap Plastics cut me a piece of plastic to cover the screen.
It has deflected a few Lego's and an errant milk splash.

Discipline your kids... only a non-parent says something like that.

First thing I would do would be to start a "what happens to the tv happens to you" policy.

Anyone played 360 on a 1280x1024 19" LCD? How does that look, if you play at the same distance as if you were sitting at your comp that is.

Just wanted to add my input on this since I just set mine up. My NEC flat screen was hooked to my PC via the DVI so it had a free VGA port. I hooked the 360 to that using the VGA cables. The cable has red and white audio cables as well. I bought some audio extension cables from Radio Shack and an adapter that takes the two RCA cables to one mini jack. Then I plugged that into the mic port on the sound card and finally got sound. I say finally because it took a lot of reading and testing to figure out how to make it work. The PC has to be on of course. Now with one easy push of the button I can switch from PC to 360. I just got it set up last night and I haven't even loaded a game up but it looks darn good at 1280x1024.

I have a 22" Acer AL2223WD. It works good and auto adjusts nicely when I connect my 360 to it.

However, today I came across this thread in video and they recommended not to use a 22" monitor for the 360 because of the 1680x1050 resolution.

I guess some monitors have problems with it. Mine seems to handle it well. I would look into getting one with a lower response time however if you choose to go the monitor route.

I have both my 360 and my PC plugged into my receiver -- it is only stereo sound, but it was a very functional, makeshift system before I added the 360 into the mix. To play the 360, I just change from the DVI to VGA input on my 2007wfp and switch the receiver from "CD" to "CDR/TAPE."

And for the poster that mentioned 1:1 on his Gateway monitor: my Dell will just add small black bars to the top and bottom, but as I mentioned before, you have to be a real videophile to notice the different in 16:9 and 16:10 at the screen sizes we are talking about (20 to 22 inch LCDs)
