Samsung has been desperately trying to get back into the high end plasma and tv market. They went to TI and licensed the entire design of TI's DLP chipset tv, called mustang, anpretty built it spec by spec for production supposedly. TI engineers claim its by far the best DLP set implementation because mfg's usually "play with designs", and samsung didnt since they were in a hurry to get to market. DLP is NOT plasma or LCD but a different technology, similar in some ways more to LCD I think than to plasma.

Alot of us have been waiting for HDTV deals. THIS new technology has been around but not out in production until just recently much,
DLP means Picture Digital Light Processing Technology and previously has only been available on 10,000$-16,000$ units. Texas Instruments supposedly makes the only reference chipset in production right now though I have way to verify that.
These sets are sharper than LCD and only a very a few people say they arent sharper than every high end projection they have seen. A few people claim the high end pioneer Elite line of projection Tv's are as good or better.
Over on the AVS forum there are over 35 pages of posts about just these 2 sets, they have ALOT of peopel excited.
Best buy and HI-FI buys are clearing out their currents stocks for more plasme and DLP sets according to different net articles I have seen.
For those of you who want a really high quality set for not much more , these are VERY much worth checking out, they are that deep compared to projection sets either, so not as big.
Personally I think 2699$ for a 43 inch DLP is incredible, but time eventually brings the price down on everything. Just look at plasma's this year compard to 2 years ago.
I DON'T think they are better than plasma's though some argue they are just as good, I rank them between LCD's, maybe TOP end direct view sets, and probably right below or next to plasma's. I may be wrong on that, but there just arent enough people out there saying they prefer them over plasma so I play it safe rather then mislead a fellow AandTech member.
My guess is DLP will be a huge part of the market very shortly.
These sets are just shipping now after a long time of waiting.
