anyone wear toeshoes at work?

I bought the fila skeletoes this weekend after lusting for Vibram Five Fingers for the last hew months


sadly I got to work today and my boss told me I can't wear them to work anymore because he doesnt like how they look

I don't blame him; they're a bit... unprofessional.. I have a guy who wears them on Friday and I haven't said anything because it's Fri, but otherwise I'd have to make him stop.

No, we are here to work, not play. Our footwear represents our attitudes towards our job, and for safety reasons we have to wear certain types of shoes / boots.

Personally, I wear black Army style combat style boots to work. When they get too shabby for work, they get retired to my hiking / hunting boot selection. Then I finish wearing them out in the woods were nobody cares what they look like.

I'll wear flip-flops at work, but only on the weekends when the office is empty and only because it can get f'ing hot in here on the weekends when they turn off the AC.

I love these type shoes, and like the benefits low/minimal soled shoes provide.

They don't belong in a work environment though if you work in an office. If you work at a sporting goods store, or somewhere like that then it could be acceptable.

I have worn my Vibrams during the warmer months (April - November) without any problem.
We do not have any unusual dangerous conditions. I think they are actually a step up from flip flops. I want to get a new pair that are not worn out, now. Those FILA look very similar to Vibrams.

Functionally I know a lot of people rave about VFF's and the like, but visually they're poison to my eyes.

Unless you work at a track camp or something I'm not sure how you'd think these would be OK for work...

I wear merrell trail gloves to work. They're the same concept but not as "weird" looking. Look at the tough glove if you want a more professional minimal style shoe

Unless you work in an aquarium and have to deal with slippery condition all the time, I don't see how those can pass as work shoes.

I wear a uniform to work. Although during PT some people wear them, and usually end up with knee injuries because they're not used to them and can only run the first half mile of the 1.5-3 we're running that day with proper form.

I have the all black/grey ones:

I work in an 'office' and mostly write SQL and ASP code most of the day.

I mostly sit at my desk. I did bring a pair of black tennis shoes(which are what I was normally wearing) incase I get dragged into a meeting

we have people that wear flip flops to work, and some walk around the office in their socks(which has been deemed OK)

hence why I thought this might actually go over

I have worn my sport riding boots to work, and once forgot my shoes at home, so I wore these all day:

so now maybe some of you who think I am a moron for thinking it might be OK, can understand why I sorta thought it might slide by.

I would never think these were OK if we had a real meeting whether the dress code said it was OK or not.

was just hoping to slide by most days as they make my knees and back ache less when I get stuck walking from my desk to the server room 100 times.
