Oh, and football is like a religion in Texas. Growing up there baseball was my thing. But I've never seen people worship a sport until I went to the UT Austin campus.

Not from Texas, but is liken to an emblem of the gods by the alumni, tailgaters (tailgators?), and students of this town. I nary understand their fanaticism of sports any more than a pauper can understand the vices of the wealthy, so I retreat to my humble nerdy musings.

In a small southern town there was a "Nativity Scene" that showed great skill and talent had gone into creating it. One small feature bothered me.

The three wise men were wearing firemen's helmets.

Totally unable to come up with a reason or explanation, I left. At a "Quik Stop" on the edge of town, I asked the lady behind the counter about the helmets. She exploded into a rage, yelling at me, "You stupid Yankees never do read the Bible!" I assured her that I did, but simply couldn't recall anything about firemen in the Bible.

She jerked her Bible from behind the counter and ruffled through some pages, and finally jabbed her finger at a passage. Sticking it in my face she said "See, it says right here, the three wise man came from afar."

Nice joke, but this one's real.

I was working with a "misplaced Texan" who was born and raised in Missouri. This was in Peachtree City, GA. A refrigerator in the cafeteria had quit working, which caused all the food to spoil over the weekend (the stench was unbearable). This guy turned to me while writing his report and said "Hey, Em. How do ya spell 'rurnt'?" (said like "burnt"). I told him "R-U-I-N-E-D." He started to write, then stopped and said: "That ain't you you spell it!"

It is inevitable during the course of my working day, i have to deal with people who work in Spartanburg, SC.

Spartanburg, SC is, without a doubt, the home to the dumbest people on the planet.
Most of them cannot spell their name... don't know what company they work for, and don't have a clue as to who their supervisor is.

The answer i receive to 90% of the questions i ask is .. "i need to get access to this thingie"

Why don't good jokes like this ever get their own thread?

I've generally had the opinion that they're lazier than stupid. That pretty much meets the disability stereotype head on. Not all of them fit either stereotype though, and I'm sure we have some hard working Southern ATOTers down there, living next door to lazy stupid people.

No, they are stupid as well. I was born in GA and grew up in NC and I can’t even tell you the number of times people think I am some genius because I can do simple math, fix something simple on a car, computer, or remember some basic stuff I learned in HS Chemistry.
Not saying those in the north or west are any better on average but Carlons quote of think how stupid the average person is… seems to ring as true when he first said it to now.

Oh and the quote we had in NC when I was growing up was #1 in Hogs, 49th in education. :awe:

Wait, so you're saying EVERYONE from the South is stupid?

Let me guess, basic math is like magic to you?

Try reading ALL of what I wrote. I know there are some big words for you to try, but go ahead and try. I'm sure you will get it. :hmm:

The 5 year old kid is obviously smart and has a bright future if his parents continue whatever they've been doing.

However......

Memorization and math does not make a person intelligent.

Intelligence is creation and understanding. Intelligence is being to mentally grasp the world around you and answer the "whys" not answering the "hows." Tell me why, that's what philosophers always have wanted to know, not "how." Some math whiz will always figure out the "how." The "why" is what's important.

Einstein was intelligent because he could hypothesize things he could not observe or demonstrate. It was not about just running numbers. He imagined it. He understood it.

Society and childhood experiences has led us to this false notion that just being an human calculator makes a person intelligent. It doesn't. Most of those "math genuises" I knew in HS didn't and won't amount to anything except maybe Google engineers, which is unimpressive to say the least.

Your jeans are intolerable, but your mind is sharp.

I shall redirect them to this video.

Frankly thats impressive.

Why is that impressive? They obviously taught the kid the flags of the world. You can teach kids anything at that age, hell my buddy's kid already knows 3 freaking languages. Funny that people are so impressed with memorization these days.

You're such an enormously stupid douchebag.

He's right, though. Blindly bleating things because you've memorized them most certainly doesn't make you intelligent.

That's part of what is so wrong with our school system. They promote memorization, while the actual learning aspect leaves something to be desired..

He also stupidly thinks that maths has no connection to intelligence. Maths is the foundation to the future of high-tech jobs.

I don't think that's what he meant. I think he means memorizing math equations, etc.. without knowing any math theory or WHY you're doing things that way. That would be a problem.

Intelligence in general is such a silly thing, it's too subjective. I suck at math, but I can fabricate something from scratch in my head, and then make it a reality.

Someone who is good at math may consider me unintelligent because of this. We all have our strengths and weaknesses. It's not something that can be blanketed.

That said, the southern drawl just makes you sound stupid, and that's enough for me.

Theres an exception to every rule, this kid probably isn't that exception and simply studied flags every day for a year while doing nothing else.

Intelligence notwithstanding, southern states have--by far--the most attractive female undergraduates of any region in the country. As an added bonus, they're often very nice as well.

I remember when I went to FL last time to visit my gf's parents. I could not believe the amount of hot chicks there were......

I don't think when these folks are saying southerners, that they mean New Zealanders.

But they probably should have added their marsupial humping asses to the list.

People from TX are just a tad smarter then people from NZ, while people from KY are just below NZ

Having lived in the midwest and New England my whole life, I can safely say that most Northerners are pretty stupid as well.

If you don't know that Colorado is part of the USA by now... then you really are stupid.
Ok I was just making a stupid joke, but if you really need this shit explained to you I shall oblige. If TX is above NZ, KY is below NZ and NZ is above USA, the question was where does that leave CO? Do you not understand the question? Are you simple?
