And you are from New Jersey. Where they don't even know how to pump their own gas. You prove my point. Gullible.

Ha!

These facts are not made up. Read a news paper once in a while.

BMW
Toyota
Bosch
Boeing

The list continues on and on ...

Is that the best you got? We get the lowest gas as well as get it pumped for us.. and that proves what?

Sorry for your failure in geography, but Virginia is part of the South. No matter how hard you try to deny it. It makes no difference how rich you are or how you vote. Your opinion doesn't matter.

Spell Mason-Dixon Line for starters.

Your references have nothing to do with intelligence.

Get out and see the country. Every state has its share of retards. Denial is futile.

Most of the "southerners are stupid" idea comes from stereotyping from TV. And the northerners are gullible enough to believe it.

I laugh as all the northern industry moves south to take advantage of our lower cost of living, highly technical work force, excellent work ethics and to escape the unreasonable demands of unions. Boeing recently moved from Washington State to Charleston SC for these very reasons.

Good luck with your urban and city slums and you suffer a mass movement of your industry to the south.

Nothing you said refuted the evidence done by that independent study that the South was lagging behind in education for Southerners in 2003.

Northern VA votes Democratic and all of the good schools are up here. That's the only reason VA is consistently in the top 15 in education (look up Fairfax/Arlington/Loudon counties). Southern VA (considered the South because of Norfolk/Richmond - votes Republican) lags behind Northern by a mile in education. The majority of the success of Virginia is in the DC area so it doesn't really count statistically for the "South". It's almost like 2 entirely different split states altogether. I grew up in the Northeast and now live in northern VA so I think I know what my state is, Mason Dixon be damned.

speaking as someone who speaks to southerners every day...

They are the stupidest people on Earth. I have no idea how any of them survive. Oh wait, yes I do. 90% of them are on "disability".

You've obviously never been to a third would country.

90%? Now thats a stupid comment.

What would you consider Maryland? In my experience people down south tend to consider Maryland as a northern state. I don't think it's out there to count DC and its surrounding areas (including parts of Maryland and Virginia) as the north. It's certainly part of the Northeast Corridor, more of a "northern" thing.

Also, the Mason-Dixon line was created to settle territory disputes between Maryland and Pennsylvania. Using it to separate "north" from "south" is an arbitrary decision.

Really, both states (Maryland and Virginia) have areas that could be considered northern as well as areas that could be called southern. Additionally, neither state is a stranger to snow, something I don't think many southern states can claim (this year being an outlier).

But in the end, what do you care? You can call Maryland whatever you want, but the area where I live definitely feels more "northern". DC metro, MD, for reference. Work up in Baltimore.

So what you are saying is if you have lots of money and it snows yearly then it is Northern? Hmmm, Interesting.

DC and Maryland are usually considered to be part of the North. However DC is Northern to the core.

I know a lot of Virginians that would whip your ass for calling them part of the "Northern States".

My wife is from VA BTW.

How about West Virgina or along the Appalachian Trail in Va they are poor and uneducated? What area do they fall under?

Your logic is off.

Not really. I just looked it up and they are about like what we have here in coastal SC. $2.82 - $2.95.

No really you pay for it being in one of the top 10 highest taxed states. IAW Forbes Magazine.

Plus From Daily Finance:

Residents shell out 11.8% of their incomes on state and local taxes, the highest state and local tax burden in the country, according to the Tax Foundation, well above the national average of 9.7%. The figure also includes taxes that residents who commute pay to states such as New York.

New Jersey residents also pay high fees, high tolls and high car insurance rates.

Having grown up in the north, moving to the south a couple years ago was a shock. The biggest shock was the trip I took to middle Georgia. Wow, it's a completely different world down there. However, cities like Atlanta and the surrounding suburbs are more like north than people realize. It's the rest of the state that really brings it down.

Your logic sucks.

I'll go and find all the areas in the south that have good schools and education levels where the people make lots of money and vote republican and I'll call that the south, everything else I'll consider them as part of the northern states.

See how stupid that is? That is exactly what you are doing. And you say we are dumb! Are you retarded?

Oh and by the way DC Area is NOT part of Virginia Nor is it a state. Again Geography Failure at its finest.

You need to move back north where you belong. You are dragging down our IQ numbers.

The number is only high because it includes NYC tax for those that commute.

State income is 6%.

Besides, we receive the least federal dollars in the entire country. Someone has to support the red states...

I lived in Florida. I paid low property taxes and no state income tax. The schools didn't even have books for english class in the most wealthy area in Florida. The people were low life hicks and I learned that sometimes you have to pay to be in a desirable and non hick location.

Reports show that the state doesn't have a 6% income rate? Yeah, you pay an extra 10% if you work in the city, but that only applies to those that work in the city. Their choice. Doesn't magically up the NJ actual rate.

Every place has a handful, but the proportion is hugely lower than the south in NJ.

We are also the most self sufficient, as I said, by receiving the least federal dollars than any state, a huge majority supporting the hick red states.

Well since you brought it up:

In advance of the 2010 Census, a new report by the Brookings Institution points to just how much federal aid is resting on the results. The report finds that federal dollars are channeled into states not so much on the basis of politics as on information about the size of each state's rural and poor populations -- data that's collected in the country's decennial census.

Federal funds by state/city in order most to least.

1. Washington DC $4,656.06 per capita
2. Vermont $2,873.67 per capita
3. Alaska $2,574.68 per capita
4. New York State $2,301.14 per capita
5. Massachusetts $2,122.33 per capita
6. Louisiana $2,028.70 per capita
7. Tennessee $1,975.93 per capita
8. Maine $1,923.61 per capita
9. New Mexico $1,917.11 per capita
10. Mississippi $1,900.24 per capita

Pardon my stupidity, but I only see three southern States listed (Louisiana #6, Tennessee # 7 and Mississippi # 10 ) in the top ten. Am I missing something here?

Well yes it actually does.
