Hi,

I am wanting to setup a website for our church.

I know a little HTML and stuff(even started learning CSS) but not enough to create a nice site. I do, I think, know enough to keep a site updated if I had one set up.

I want to show current and upcoming events, ministry offered(food, clothing, drug/alc. counseling, etc.) and show past, recorded church services. Maybe have a small forum for prayer requests and requests for assistance.

Also, I have a couple sites that I really like to kinda go by as examples of what I want.

Thanks,
Jeff

Awesome ministry to get into Jeffwo!

Look at setting up a Wordpress blog and editing it from there. I am a co-admin of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship at Virginia Tech's website and we, instead of writing our own website, we found a template in WordPress and worked from there.

If you want to look at our website and/or ask questions, feel free to pm me!

if blog style site works for you, then go right ahead with wordpress.
if you're looking for something a bit more cms-ish, then joomla.

but i'd definitely advise against writing your own html.

the key to a successful church website is content management (how well you can keep the site up to date.)
that's not something that you want to accomplish via static html.
and rather than creating your own cms, it'll save you much trouble and time just using one of those two.
also, this way, you can assign many people to get involved in updating the site.

just my 2 cents.

I was not saying that I would write my own html, just trying to explain my level of understanding of websites.

Wordpress looks good.

Who shud I use for hosting and domain name. What about the HostPC $13.95/yr. renewable?

I've been with hostgator.com for years and I swear by them. They have the BEST support and it's 24/7.

For a domain name godaddy.com works well for me, i've been with them for years and no problems.

TBH 13.95 is dirt cheap and you get what you pay for in hosting, always.

Namecheap is better than Godaddy IMO for buying domains. Their home page and control panel are far easier to navigate.
