So what temps. are you getting in BIOS and in Easytune??

Also which BIOS version are you using??

Post your OC specs also please.

I'm getting about 48-50 degrees in Easytune at IDLE and about 64-66 degrees at load in Easytune with my E6400 OCed to 3.2GHz at 1.35v.

My non-overclocked E6300 with a Pentium D 805 HSF is at 36 degrees.. as indicated in the Bios.

Doesn't it suck to be an early adopter? It is fun but th eboat is mainly empty...meaning you are the answers for us and likely wont get many of your own until more start getting there E6600 chips with this mobo...

Uhh... no, it doesn't suck.. The early adopters generally are people who like to have the newest products, even when that means that you'll have to figure some things out for yourself, and possibly workout the kinks of new technology, and they look at it as part of the fun. You don't enjoy that kind of thing? Don't buy technology that isn't well tested by the market at large. I think that us who have the conroe setups are enjoying working through and discovering the possibilities of this new technology. It's what being an early adopter is all about. I'm loving it, personally.

oh, and to thilan, I'll post all my temps and whatnot once I get off work this evening. I just ordered the Thermalright si-128 and a scythe 120mm fan, so next week I'll be able to post the difference between that and the stock hsf.

cheers

Thanks so much...I'm struggling to find the cause of the high idle temps. I'm not sure if it's reported incorrectly or the heatsink is not making proper contact, although I think it is since the Big Typhoon still gets a bit warm to the touch.

My A64 3000+ at 2.5GHz 1.45v idled around 28-30 degrees with a 26 ambient so I'm not sure why this Core2 is idling so high. Even at stock it was idling at around 45-48 degrees.

I think you missed my point...I would be an early adopter if Intel properly primed the pipe of E6600 retail chips like the on eI preorder a month ago...I have DS3 board, and ram that supposedly wont work with it...I know the fun I can have...I also know the frustration that can come with it...

I have the Gigabyte DS3 and I haven't installed the OS yet, but my in my BIOS the CPU temp is around 40 degrees. (E6600, retail cooler.)

That's decent I guess but it should still be lower I think. What are your room temperatures like??

I dunno what the room temperature is, but I have the AC cranked, and it's fairly chilly in here. I'm not overclocking it all all, and I'm not intending too.

Do you think it's a good idea to swap out the stock heatsink/fan for a better cooling solution? I don't usually look at this sort of thing, but is 40 degrees okay, considering that I'm not OC'ing it?

I'm getting about 48-50 degrees in Easytune at IDLE and about 64-66 degrees at load in Easytune with my E6400 OCed to 3.2GHz at 1.35v.

Here you go:

Temps
easy tune: 39-40 at idle, 49-50 full load
bios: 36
ambient: 26 (78-79f)

bios version: f4c

OC:
stock volts, hsf, everything.
8x350=2.8ghz
100% stable through 2 passes of memtest86 and 10 hours of Orthos stress

hope that helps

See those temps. are more in line with what I was expecting, although the difference between ambient and idle temp. still looks high.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully reseating my heatsink fixes my issue.

Is it wrong to expect idle temps just a couple of degrees above ambient like my OCed A64 at 1.45v was doing?? I figured 65nm CPUs would run cooler.

Has anyone enabled Intel QST (Quiet System Technology) in the bios? I tried it and Windows asks for a PCI Simple communications controller driver. Right now I'm running fan mode in Auto.

Solved the driver issue...

Just tried QST vs. Auto mode and it seems QST runs about 5 deg C hotter mainly because the fans are spinning slower.

Wow, those are great temps. What is your idle temperature?? What is your ambient?? And this is on a E6400 with DS3?? And what case do you have??

If you are not OC the stock cooler should be fine. A good case fan should fix it for you.

FSB: 450
Vcore: 1.34 (too low prob)
Vmem: 2.10
--------------
MHz: 3150

Using an E6300 w/Thermalright SI-128, Gigabyte DS3 motherboard, and G.SKILL F2-6400PHU1-1GB HZ RAM. Ran dual Prime95 for 10 hours on "torture test" with no errors. Idles right around 40deg cel however when I checked this morning the dual P95 had pushed up to 70-72deg cel. Granted this is running an an office now and will be moved into colo soon so I expect temperatures to drop.

An annoying thing about the DS3 mobo is that it is not supported by any Linux installer kernels. In order to get Debian on this beast I'm going to have to compile a bleeding edge 2.6.18 kernel for ICH8 support.

Idle temp.... no idea it hasn't been idle Well not for a while... I think 31C or so? I have a cooler master Centurion 543 (I think maybe 534) and it has great airflow.... the rear case fan blows out air and it isnt even barely warm. And yes it's a 6400 /w DS3.

Ah, thanks for that tidbit. I tried to load a Kubuntu Live CD last week before installing Windows. Nothing happened, so I thought my DVD was broken. However, it loaded Windows just fine.
