Anyone with a Pioneer AppRadio 2? Question Regarding Wiring.

So I just got a Pioneer AppRadio 2. I previously had an old AVIC. The parking brake bypass on the AVIC was easy. With the AppRadio 2, I've seen posts on other forums saying that the bypass modules on eBay can be rendered useless by firmware updates for the AppRadio 2.

Most places I've read say they recommend installing a switch to simulate parking brake on, parking brake off, parking brake on (which the AppRadio 2 needs to see or "detect" for video and other functions to work).

Anyone have any experience with this? I'm looking for a switch that when pressed once (push in, then release) will simulate parking brake on, parking brake off, parking brake on.

I'd like a switch with amber or white lighting such as these:

Will this switch (if wired properly) do what I need it to?

I have the 8400 model which uses the same process, parking on, off, on.

Installed it and never looked back. Works great. $20 price wasn't too bad, considering what I spent on audio and electronics for my car.

That PAC-TR7 supposedly works, but last time Pioneer released a firmware update for the AppRadio, they did something to disable it which is why most people recommend a switch which will always work.

So, anyone know if the switch I linked to above will simulate brake on, off, on with one push?

It says latching in the description so yes, push on then push again to turn off.

Let me know how you like the Appradio 2. Reviews I've seen haven't been so great on the first one, and the second one doesn't seem like it's more upgraded...

So if I want it to simulate (with one push of the button) parking brake on, parking brake off, parking brake on, do I want a latching switch or a momentary switch?

You need a latching switch.
But you will need to push the button three times unless they make a switch with some electronics in it which i highly doubt.

The device linked from amazon is a small microchip i would guess which upon power up does the on/off/on thing that your looking for. Looks like it does it automatically as well.

Ah ok, so a latching switch then. Yeah, the device linked to at Amazon is the same thing you can get cheap on eBay. On the AVIC411 forums everyone who installed one on the original AppRadio found that it stopped working after applying firmware updates on the AppRadio.

A manual switch to simulate the parking brake goes around that.

After tons of debating with myself, I picked one up today. I bought it solely on the absolutely minimal interface - other radio interfaces are frikken horrible.

I ended up going with a Pioneer AVH-P8400BH instead. I didn't realize (until I was about to buy it) that the AppRadio 2 doesn't even support A2DP bluetooth audio streaming.

I'm willing to live with that. I have a Belkin AD2P adapter, and I've heard factory ones, and I'm never impressed with the audio quality. I'd way rather be wired in.

I am going to bench test everything tomorrow. So far, I can't seem to get the navigation running along with Pandora or Music app, which is a huge fail.

I am able to temp bypass it by grounding it twice, and I am using a jailbreak app to watch Netflix and other unsupported apps, but need to connect an amp to see how it's actually behaving. I'll do this Saturday afternoon.

I can't stand the GUI's in other stereos, so I am determined to keep this, even if it's only Pandora and music app that works...lol

The MicroBypass sold on Amazon and eBay works even with the latest software upgrade. I own a high-volume shop, and that is all we use. It is the relays sold on eBay that don't work with the new software. People were selling relays on eBay and making people turn on the car, turn off the car, then start the car to give the 8400 and AppRadio2 the "double pulse" needed... It seldom worked and Pioneers tech support was getting so many calls about this inferior method, that they changed the software. The old software "remembered" the last state in of the PB in a low power mode for about 15 min so the relay method worked... but now the new software "dumps" the last state of the PB at turn off. The easiest method is the MicroBypass because there is no programming like the TR7 requires, it uses less connections then the TR7, and it does the routine every time the radio is powered. Just my $.02

I refuse to acknowledge the AppRadios because Pioneer makes you buy an expensive adapter to use Android phones. Cabling should be included. Make the iUsers buy an expensive adapter for once.

My mother was looking at one; I told her not to buy it. She has a Galaxy S II.
