Looking at a position in the Perfomance Improvement division. NOT general auditing. I'm talking about IT consulting.

How do you like it? How well are you treated? Whats your level?

What kind of things could I expect as a Senior Associate?

Do you like working in your office? How is your principle? Any advantages to working out of large city over a small one?

Edit: Just heard I should be getting an offer in the next couple of days!

my gf was an intern there winter of 2006. she was doing public accounting work and she hated every second of it. they kept her at audits till 1-2AM and would have to come back at 8AM. luckily for her, since she was an intern she made overtime, but salaried workers don't get OT and if you do the math they end up making around min. wage for the amount of hours they had to work. the people she worked with told her that experiences may vary depending which company you are auditing, but for the most part, 75% of the audits they go on end up that way.

It looks like they liked to bribe her with trips to disney, free trinkets and cocktails, but in return she had to work ridiculous hours
starting salary for a new accountant is around 45k, which SUCKS for what she said she had to do!!

Thanks for the reply. I wouldn't be doing the Auditing, I'd be doing the consulting.

I PMed you. If you communicate with them or start there, better call it PwC. Some of them get very anal about that.

I know a girl who worked at PWC. She had a degree in accounting, but not a CPA yet. She worked there for a little over a year before she decided to leave the accounting industry all together. I think she's pursuing another career now. I really dont think it had anything to do with PWC, but more so with public accounting in general. The turnover among recent grads is not good.

It would also depend on which city/region.

Sure the hours suck, but once you have 2-3 years of experience, you are set.

big4 is more 48-55, but the experience is worth it (personally i'm gonna try to get 2 more years of experience elsewhere then try for IT audit)

All the Big4 spun off their consulting except for deloitte, but its become a competitive advantage for them since they have what they call an integrated multi-disciplinary practice.

All the big4 are now starting to build their consulting services back up.

Yes. They can't call it consulting because of a non-compete with IBM set to expire pretty soon. They have positioned themselves in a non-implementation position providing advice to clients as the name suggests while not giving business direction. It is a small niche market that they will expand from when the non-compete expires. Due to Sox they have to be careful what services they provide audit clients.

I had been wondering about that since I read about the sale earlier today on the internet. Thanks for the clarification.

she was set with just her internship. she had some awesome offers from different companies for internal auditing and stuff now, with an offer that would put the pwc entry level position to shame.

that said, i heard that the advisory division is a pretty sweet gig. I interviewed for an internship in advisory division while I was a junior in college and the description and people seemed cool enough.

worked for them right out of school, like any job it had it's ups and downs...don't know what division it's in now since groups always changed names (acronyms), but i did information security for their clients, ranging from attack and penetration to high level policy gap analysis/review

this was back in 1998, started at 42k, out of NYC

it was a great stepping stone into other companies

I'm interning there right now, and I'm really enjoying it. I'm not sure that I'm sold on public accounting, but the people are quality, the company treats us well, the summer hours are great, and the work isn't horrible.

It is now called security practice: http://www.pwc.com/security. Rumor is the alignment will change soon enough. I did that too more recently. Probably some of the top people you worked with were still the same. I bet the names on the page for contacts are probably people that you recognize.

i heard that the summer sessions are alot less hectic than the winter ones. I guess the more intense auditing gets done because of after Q4 and stuff
