So, I just learned that my new job will be on a 10 hour a day 4 day a week schedule? Anyone work this sort of schedule and if so how did that turn out for you? Seems like during those 4 days you have no free time at all, but then the 3 day weekend looks kinda sexy too.

I do it now, I get Tuesday-Thursday off, work Friday-Monday 11:30am to 10pm, with a half hour unpaid lunch. Easy work, and it gives me a lot of free time to relax during the middle of the week.

I'd love to have four ten hour days...have five 8.5hr days now. Three days off per week = win.

4x10 would actually be more favorable based on longer commutes because you only have to drive 4 days a week and not 5, and your not gonna be in the worst part of rush hour.

Actually no driving in any scenario is better

My point is it doesn't make the day LONGER than it already is.

EDIT:

Not to mention they pay my home internet bill + phone because I work out of home.

Well, does that 10 hour work day include your lunch hour? Or are you actually at work from say, 8am to 7pm.

Reason I ask is that a normal 8-5 schedule is 9 hours of work with a 1 hr lunch included in that 8-5. So if youa re just doing 8-6, then that's nothing, AND you get a full extra day off compared to M-F ppl. (hope that made sense)

I'm working 12+ hour days, though not every day...still, 12+ hours is pretty tough.

Seems like it has potential. Most of the time I'm too lazy to do anything after work anyway, so no loss there.

I worked 4x10s and really loved it. One bonus at my former employer - holidays and vacation were figured as scheduled work days, not eight-hour days. This inflated time off by 25% (holidays were taken as the scheduled work day closest to the actual holiday). Look into that at your new gig.

I work 3x12 one week then 4x12 the next week, but with OT it's 4x12 every week.

I did 3x12(in a row) for a couple years. Those are long days. Especially when you are working from 7PM-7AM...and being the only person on the entire floor of the building.

If you have a moderately short commute, 4x10 wouldn't be a terrible gig. Working 7-5 or something like that would be alright. Or even 8-6. You still get home at a decent time and can work out or have some time to yourself when you get in.

I'd do that if given the chance.

I did for a while, its not bad, because a lot of times when you have an 8 hr day schedule, you end up being there longer anyway, so its nice to work a little more but not have to come in the 5th day.

Do you get overtime for the hours after 8? If not, that sux...One of the many benefits of living in Kahleeforneeya is the Overtime after 8 law. (with some exceptions and allowances for 4x10 hour work weeks.)

I like working 4-10's myself. I enjoy having a 3 day weekend every week. Unfortunately, in the line of work I had for over 30 years, they usually soon morph into 5-10's, or 6-10's, 6-12's, and even 7-10's or 7-12's. While the money is great, pretty soon, you're living to work, instead of working to live...
