business seems to be good and I'm a valued member of my department, so not particularly, but the prospect does freak me out sometimes.

I've been working in IT for 5 years, but what I do is fairly specialized (data center maintenance, working on server hardware) and I've got no certs, so I wonder how f'd I'd be if I were to suddenly find myself unemployed and back on the job market... every job I've ever landed except one has been because I had an in.

I'm pretty worried, but more for the falling oil prices since I work for an oil services company. If the price per barrel keeps dropping, I'll soon be looking for work elsewhere.

Concerned about losing my job? Sure, whoever isn't concerned is either a fool or ignorant. However, am I worried? Nope not a bit.

Why? I have 8-10 months of living expenses, half in cash at INGDirect the other half in a whole life policy I would cash out. I'm actually going to cash out that policy anyways and put the money into a CD ladder. And ever since I got a new job with a nice raise, I'm piling dough into savings right now to hopefully bring it up to 1 year or more. I also saw the signs of impending financial problems in the economy late last year (although nowhere near the extent it has been) and began a quest to pay down all of my debt. I have a couple thousand left on my truck and my mortgage payment. Hopefully I can pay off the truck in a couple months which will leave me and mine in pretty good shape in case the economy gets worse. Since I spend less than I earn and I bought a house I can actually afford, I'm not in any imminent danger of losing it. Of course the shit could hit the fan at any moment and I lose everything to marauding zombies but my cats will protect me right ?
