Anything better than Weber Genesis grill in $1000 range?

I'm looking for a grill for the 4th of July. I've gone through a few grills so far, I've never had a purely gas or electric grill. I had a weber performer which was a gas starting charcoal grill.

Just wondering if there are other opinions on other gas grills in the $700-1000 range.

I eventually will want a built-in, but that is probably next year or 2.

Thanks!

I would save the $$$ and skip the stainless steel. Just get an enameled steel and use the saved money for your built-in. Plus, stainless is a bitch to clean. Every grease splatter shows!

Agree on the Stainless. However, find yourself a used Weber on Craigslist, spend a little $$ on replacement parts. Use it for the next 10 years.

An older Genesis is a better grill than anything bought new today...

i dont understand why you would spend $1000 on something that you are going to replace in a year or two.

Cater out this 4th

Thanks for the input everyone. Sometimes plans aren't fulfilled. If the grill is good maybe I won't do a built-in, I contacted a landscaper a month ago to try and get a built-in before the 4th but they couldn't design the kitchen time. I've heard good things about the genesis, i can skip the stainless. I think I can get OK resale value out of it also if I do end up going with a built in.

Not sure I have time to drive to Dayton before the 4th! Plus I've had more bad experiences than good on Craigs list, lol. I felt at unease for my life in the most recent transaction.

outdoor grill?

build yourself a brick oven. you can use it as a smoker, grill, and pizza over. there is no gas thingamajig that can compare.

(and it's less than a grand)

+1. Replace burners, etc and enjoy.

Yes, I'm not sure where in Ohio you are from, so Dayton was what I did a brief search on.

Sorry about your last transaction. I've had good luck, albeit caution is exercised. (I.e. meet in a public place, or go to their house in broad daylight with a friend to help load/move the item)

Good luck in your purchase...

Good choice - I just got the one just up from the E-330, the EP-330, which includes stainless insides, and love it.

When I bought my house, the owner said that he graciously left me his old grill. I thought, "Oh, that's cool... I've never had a real grill." However, when I opened it up, I found what looked like a grill that had never been cleaned and is now all rusty. This is some old Tuscany by Altima grill that was apparently sold at Costco around 2006 for around $500. It looks like the replacement heat tents alone will run around $60, and around another $50-60 for replacement grills. Is it even worth it at this point? I see similar-looking grills at Lowes and Home Depot for $150-200 (I don't expect them to be nearly as good as the one that Elmo got). I don't know enough about grills to know whether it's really worth putting money into this thing.

I think there are probably some used Weber grills in the $300 range that would run circles around that costco grill, but not sure. Also if you CAN hold off, I'd say in the winter the sales on the grill I got ($799) go down to $499. Sounds like a lot, but the party was a true success. Grilled up 10 burgers, 10 dogs, 6 brats, 8 potato skins. Really the first try, too. I cooked one burger as a trial and error first (we won't comment on the outcome of that one), after that everyone was very happy.

You could also try to clean up the rust and sell that grill to get more money to upgrade to a new or slightly used Weber. I expect my grill to last 10 years, I will clean it after every use.

The interior parts on mine will need replaced too. Those heat tents are called "Flavorizer bars" on the Weber. They are considered "consumerable" items (wear and tear like a car). For $120 you could replace the bars and grills, and try it out. To me as long as the thing maintains temperature I'm happy.
