Anything I need to know before I install my X2 4400+?

Just make sure your bios supports the x2.

Yeah, I've got the latest final release BIOS from ASUS.

Then install.
If it doesn't work... Take out 1 stick and it should boot.

I have a related issue in that I have been planning on utilizing an Opteron 175 in a A8N-SLI Premium motherboard. While the 175 is not officially supported, there appears to be multiple individuals using this processor in this motherboard successfully.

I have read in a review (newegg?) that someone with a X2 4800 was not able to boot on this motherboard and believed the problem was that the bios needed to be updated to boot the 4800 (which required a different processor supported by the lower versioned bios originally supplied on the motherboard).

The question I have, related to the x2, is will the bios which comes with a (to be purchased) A8N-SLI Premium motherboard boot (perhaps in single-processor) an Operon 175 ?

Anyone know if a A8N-SLI Premium will boot with an Opteron 175 (or even an X2 4400) without updating the bios on the motherboard, or at least get far enough to update the bios from a floppy ?

Yes it should work fine. Their is no way you don't have a 90nm compatible bios. Some 939 boards would not work with more then one mem stick untill 90nm bioses started to come out. Any mobo supporting 90nm CPUs should then, even without X2 support, reconize any X2 you put in it. It may only reconize it as an unknown AMD CPU and only see one core but it should still work.

Read the end of This message just in case something goes wrong. I got the AMD 4400+ and asus A8V and I had many problems, but all were summed up and resolved at the end of that post. Might come in handy.
