I'm a middle school teacher and this morning as the students were coming down the hall I heard a fellow teacher ask a student to tuck in his shirt. Apparently the student did not do so and as he was coming my way the teacher told me to stop the kid. There was a group of about 5 and I asked him which one since a couple had their shirts untucked. He said to stop the black kid so I did. Is there anything inappropriate about what he said? Maybe he could have said African/Afro American but it seems to change all the time about what is appropriate any given day but I don't see anything wrong with it honestly.

the correct thing would have been

Hey, boy! get your black ass over here...

I can't believe you are asking if "black" is a taboo

Wait a year, what ticks me off is that certain black people can yell cracker all day long, as soon as someone yells the N word, the police show up and people get arrested.

Oh please, Cracker hardly carries the connotation of the N word.

as long as i'm called white, people descendant from africa will be black, and there's nothing inherently racist about either of those terms.

Explain it to me.

Because the N word carries back to slavery; you know, white people owning black people? They were constantly referred to by the N word.

SO PLEASE; until Cracker is used on you by someone who owns you explicitly, dont' try to make it seem as if they hold the same weight. Because they don't.

That's a crock of sh!t and you know it, cracker has the same offensive connotation as the N word.

BS...personally I HATE being called white boy... and no one would ever get arrest for saying that to me. The N word on the other hand....YOU GO TO JAIL

Nothing wrong with it. African American is a stupid around-the-bend way of calling somebody black, so why not just get to the matter? If you're talking about a BLACK Person you say african american. Why not black? I heard about a white kid from south africa who was recently denied the african american award at his school. The reason? He's not black, so it should have been a black award in the first place if they wanted to be racist about it (since there was no white award).

Yea; when I'm called cracker (though I never have been if it wasn't a joke), it sure does spur up emotiions about how my forefathers were tortured, abused and worked to death.

Oh right no it doesn't because that never happened.

If someone were to refer to me as white I take no offense at all. The reason I brought up the topic is because later on in the day, as the student passed the teacher who called him black, he confronted him and said he was going to tell the principal because he is racist. That really got me and I jumped all over him for his rudeness and disrespect.

crack·er ( P ) Pronunciation Key (krkr)
n.

-A thin crisp wafer or biscuit, usually made of unsweetened dough.

-One that cracks, especially: A firecracker.

-A small cardboard cylinder covered with decorative paper that holds candy or a party favor and pops when a paper strip is pulled at one or both ends and torn.

-The apparatus used in the cracking of petroleum.

-One who makes unauthorized use of a computer, especially to tamper with data or programs.
Offensive.

-Used as a disparaging term for a poor white person of the rural, especially southeast United States.

-Used as a disparaging term for a white person.

Cracker is used by certain black people as a counter to the N word, I see it on a daily basis. (I work near a bad neighborhood)

I don't know where you live, but on the eastern seaboard, cracker is the same as the N word, period.

Yea, so, we all know its a bad term. I'm simply saying that it in no way carries the same emotional and historical weight of the N word.

More offensive the "Drunken Mick" (which is redundant)

i agree, this 'color' thing is blown out of proportion, maybe because some people used to use it in a derogatory term. but if we are going to have to accept 'white' and 'black', shouldn't we have acceptable terms for other people of colors too? say, is 'red', 'yellow' is acceptable (and understandable)? what about people that aren't white or black or red or yellow? see, this is getting needlessly complicated.

that's why i think it's the intention that counts, and not the term itself...

What is worse:

Stop that black kid!

Stop that colored boy!

Stop that Negro!

Stop that N$$$$r!

You should've stopped the entire group and told them to tuck in their shirts.
