She's paying for it, I'm just ordering and building it.

SkyHawk Mid Tower

Lite-On 16X Model SOHW-1633S

WD 80 GB SATA HDD

Corsair ValueSelect 1GB DDR400

Samsung 710N-2 17" LCD

Asus K8N s754 mobo

Antec SL400 PSU

A64 2800

Logitech X230 speakers

eVGA 6600GT AGP

With shipping, it comes to 1194.59. It needs to remain below 1200. What do y'all think? Anything you think I should change.

Oh, her old system is too old to be of much use in salvage, so don't ask if there is anything I could re-use. (Except the CDROM drive, which I already planned on putting in this system)

unless she is a gamer, no need to get a 6600GT could save some $ there. could also probably get away with 512 ram, but i dont know what kind of user your mom is

She asked me to build a system capable of playing newer games, I should have mentioned that above.

I thought about doing that, and spoke to her about it. She's actually got a very nice desk setup with her current antique computer and wants to keep the new one in the same area. Also, there really isn't any place for her to move the system too, hell would freeze over before she'd go to a LAN party.

She's getting more into games now, since I moved out, my sister is getting ready to leave for college, and my two younger brothers both have driver's licenses now. More free time.

If i were building for my mom, I'd probably go with a SFF (small form factor) like the Shuttle SN95G5. It is a 939 socket, although it is still has the AGP slot for the Vid card (maybe 6800 non ultra). Unless she plans on upgrading within the next year to a PCI-E system, then a 939 socket with AGP should be more than adequate to run her games, surfing etc.

What games does she play?

Since you're on a budget I'd stick with a S754. You're mom won't get anything from a S393. And it's not worth the money.

Also I don't think that case comes with any fans...
I would like to see that system with a AMD 64 3000+ for only $20.00 more. I don't think you'll regret it.

It needs to stay under 1200. The 330 Shuttle SN95G5 is too much.

She plays the Myst series at the moment, has expressed interest in some MMOs, and my brother has been telling her about a lot of upcoming games that have interested her.

I'd love to put in a A64 3000, but that 20 also puts it over the limit.

Edit - I think this is going to be the final spec
