I have a Viewsonic PF790 and this thing is putting off some serious heat. I've had it for about 3 years now and love the heck out of it except for the heat it puts off

Anyway I can cool it down, Would taking it apart and blowing out the inside help??

thanks

A monitor should not require cooling. It is designed to live with the heat it produces. However - - - youi can mount a small fan on the wall or on a stand so that it blows on the monitor. Then that heat will be dispersed in your room . . . maybe cut down on your heating bill? Just don't put the fan so close that it creates EMI.

Somebody makes a fan that fits on the top of monitors to help pull the heat out but I have never seen one forsale anywhere.

Do you think its safe to pull it apart and blow out the inside with compressed air???

What about that Japanese cooler that uses Freon (I think it was from a company called Senfu)? I read a review about it a while ago, but have seen nothing since. Anyone have any experience with that one?

No! The last thing you want to do is move the dust etc around inside your monitor. If you build it up in a high voltage section and cause a spark gap, you will regret it. Leave well enough alone.

A properly designed and well-ventilated monitor should not require cooling of any kind. Keep the vents open, do not stack anything on top of your monitor. Avoid desks that have sides and a top that surround the monitor and block air flow.

Respectfully agreed. Just because it feels "warm to the touch" doesn't mean you need to persue active cooling. It's by nature of design. Most CRT's are designed to perform best when warmed up anyways.

Cheers!

That's what I was gonna say, I usually warm up my monitor before watching a dvd or something. I can't see the logic in wanting to cool it down unless it's overly hot.

My monitor thermostat says the ambient temperature outside of it is only 80-90 degrees while the room temperature is 62-70.

Put a big 120 MM fan on the back

I had a Mag 17" that ran warm enough that I figured out the colors would go all whacky, and when I put a fan on the back blowing air in, the problems stopped... Pretty nuts..

No matter how many fans you put on the monitor, the heat will still go into your room unless you find some way to lead it somewhere else.

I also have the PF790, great monitor aint it(mine is about a month old) I can feel the heat radiating out of the top where the vents are, but like everyone is saying, it's perfectly normal. I have enough fans running in this room anyway (8 in the tower)
