Anyway to speed up BitTorrent

In utorrent (best thing out there )) I'm finding that the download speeds normally don't exceed 100kbB/s, and sometimes get to 150kB/s.

I have utorrent on some radomized port and also to limit the upload so I don't get throttled.

So is there anything I can do it uTorrent or on my router to possibly speed up the download? Or is this just out of my hands?

I don't think there is anything you can do. If your keeping around 100kb then I would be happy. I am luckly to keep around 50-80 70% of the time. Some stuff will go faster depending on how many seeds and uploaders. If you have 200 seeds and 5000 uploads chances are speeds are gonna be little slow. But if you have something like 200 seeds and 1000 uploads you should keep decent speeds.

For this torrent, I expect to see slower speeds so I'm not complaining about it.

It's 10GB (yes, 10GB, I want my Anime ) and it has ~40 seeders and ~350 peers (according to utorrent). With this I expect 100kB/s.

But sometimes with 100mb torrents with really high amounts of seeders and peers it goes just as slow.
Oh well, I guess I should be happy with what I got
For what it's worth my Internet connection is 15/2.

you mean 15mb down and 2 up?

if thats your connection then those torrent speeds seem very slow

the most ive gotten from utorrent with 6mb down is around 500kb/s

did you try forwarding the utorrent port in your router and allowing connections to it in any sofware firewall youre using?
it has to be in TCP

I've forwarded the uTorrent port in the router. It was always forwarded. Maby I should choose another radomized port??

Also I have no software firewall. Only Anti-Vir.

the another port solution could work, utorrents faq suggests a port above 10000

i personally use 1755

What I like about azureus is it has a tester in it to let you know if ports are forwarded correct. No matter the connect IMO don't expect to much more then what you are getting all the time. I don't think there is anything you can do to make it jump alot and get that most the time. Now if most had the connection you do then things would blaze.

Put your upload speed in utorrent to around 75% of your upload bandwidth.

I'm sure you're away, but many torrents take time to kick into full gear. So be patient. Large downloads I just leave on overnight and 100kb/s is a decent speed.

BTW, how has Fios been treating you? Any latency issues? How was the installation process? Did you end up replacing the router they gave you?

b) I have Optimum Online (OOL) from Cablevision that'll cap (throttle) your bandwidth if you upload too much. So I HAVE TO HAVE THE UPLOAD ON 10-15kB/s. OTHERWISE I GET SCREWED.

I'm lucky to hit 50kbp/s, then again, my connection is only 1mb down.

Some torrents are bandwidth limited. I remmber getting stuck with 10 kb DL on a multi gig file. It took 1-2 weeks to get.

Use the "Speed Guide" in Utorrent. Then once those defaults are set up.... go mess with the settings. That's teh only way to get hte best performance. Careful about keeping to many open connections though or your internet browsing will DRaaaaagggggggggg

Are you sure it's not set to use a random port every time it starts? In that case port forwarding wouldn't help you much.

I would stay away from torrents if you have download/upload caps. If you're not willing to seed at least 100% of the file then it's bad for everybody else too.

Torrents work on a ratio basis. You capping your upload so abysmally low causes your downloads to be capped at where they are. Thems the breaks. I know it sucks for you, but your inability to not assist with the uploading also sucks for everyone else on BT.

I cap mine at 20 KB/sec simply because I experience browsing slow-downs with anything more. My upload is only 48 KB/sec as it is. And I've definitely never experienced downloading caps due to that.
